I think its rude to talk to yourself in public. Its confusing to other people. Other than that, its fine to talk to yourself. But if you're hearing voices, maybe you should see a professional.

Thinking you don't necessarily have to speak out loud but if you do feel free to do so in the privacy of your own room etc. In public the rest of us us would rather you do it in the privacy of your own mind or we might call the men in white coats with big syringes!!!
Have a good think, or talk 2 yourself all u like its sometimes very therapeutic analysing conversations after you've had them or possible ones before a big date interview or meeting.
Don't worry too much neurosis is normal unless of course the voices tell u otherwise!!?
Nyway talking to yourself is not the first sign of madness nor is answerin yourself the second....................................................
The second is actually finding hairs on the back of your hand the first is looking for them tehee!

Thinking to yourself is quite normal and can be done in public, it's about organizing ideas, creating new ones and judging what you will do or just did (e.g. "Maybe I should have pizza tonight... Mmh, maybe not, last time I bought it and I almost throw up..."). Talking to yourself is having a conversation with yourself as if you were two people at the same time (e.g. "Perhaps I should have pizza tonight... No, no, I don't like pizza. Yeah, you're right, it would be a waste of money")

I talk to myself all the time and I answer myself too - why? because it's the only time I get a straight answer. Laugh
I draw the line when I think of swearing.

Talking to yourself in public is disturbing and weird. Period. When there are other people to talk to it seems very odd.
On your own time in private its very acceptable. I usually do it when i'm extremely mad or extremely happy. You're basically putting in words what you want to tell someone but can't because you're alone. It's just easier then picking up the phone and calling someone.

Sometimes it's good to talk to yourself when you have a lot of things to do in a day and you are performing last minute checks whether you have got everything you need

Before cell-phones were invented talking to oneself in the street was considered weird. Now it's considered a sign of wealth and prestige. If one were to forget him/herself, however, and was spotted by passers-by talking to him/herself, he/she could immediately place one hand over their ear and pretend they have a mini cell-phone in there to avoid embarrassment.
But still, some people do tend to think aloud. It's very human; hence the phrase: "thinking aloud"! I believe someone could draw the line when they weren't able to control it.

True it can. I was always told that if you answer yourself you in deep trouble. But when you are thinking, for example how to put something together you do answer yourself when you finally figure out which way it should go together. ahha, that's the way it should go.

I talk to myself regular and the time to draw the line for me is when I start to answer myself back.
