My papillon is potty trained for the most part but still likes to mark and be lazy and not go outside. Hes about 2 years old, and not fixed yet. Does anyone have any training suggestions on how to make him stop?

My oldest Papillon is very much like yours. I have found that the only thing that helps me is crate training him. I usually allow him to roam around the house after he does his business outside and I have placed him on a schedule where I take him outside every five hours. If you can't watch him and you don't want to find any urine on the carpet, I recommend a belly band, it is like a diaper for males, it may not stop him from urinating inside the house but at least he won't urinate on the carpet.

OK, I haven't gotten my pap yet, but I've been reading everything I can get my hands on! Apparently, they are difficult to house break, but you have to be very consistent. My suggestion is you start by crate training him. Also, if you aren't going to breed/show him, you should have him neutered. This usually helps or stops the marking situation in any breed. Don't, whatever you do punish him if you didn't catch him in the act. Otherwise he has no clue why you're yelling at him. If you do catch him, just correct him sternly and take him outside where you want him to go. If you are home with him, go back to the basics of house training and let him out frequently, on lead if necessary. Praise and treats when he does what you want. Also, there are lots of products out there to erase the smells of where he's marked in the house. You MUST get rid of that, or he'll just keep doing it.
