peoplen say oh my god all the time every language and culture has it in different forms ,my question is does that mean we constantly have to check in with god . We say it at every available moment when we are having sex when some thing good happens when something bad happens every huam scenario we bring god into it. Are we just insecure at being separated from our maker ?

Oh My God - It is the expression of excitement. Something more than we anticipated has happened. It can be positive or negative. Like a child calls his/her mom or dad when something happened above normal. That clearly shows the relationship man had and has with God, his Creator.

If a tv program or a popular book had the phrase "oh my legs" and the phrase "oh my god" had not yet made it's rounds, then we would all be saying 'legs' instead of 'god'. It's all about timing, ever wonder that if jesus was alive at a different period christians might be wearing guillotines or nooses or an axe blade around their neck?

Asking a question on how the entire planet phrases an exclamation that has come to mean little or nothing is a bit pointless.
I don't say OH my GOd...as I don't belive in one. I say "oh my goodness" whem i am in front of little people or my parents and "OH MY ****", when I am genuinley surprised!

Words are words and its every individuals right to decide how outraged they are by them all!

"GOD" bless everyones right to free speech!

Luv you!!!

:)

Um, no. Most people say it because it's a socialized expression. I don't believe in god, and I say it pretty often from habit. I don't even think about it, just like I don't think about it when I say holy sh*t. It's just words. Linguistics. It has nothing to do with a connection to god.

Just because some one cries out "Oh Sh*t!" doesn't mean that they'll immediately need to get a clean pair of underwear. Language is learned through immitation, and OMG is just a way of expressing surprise.

Who's this "we"? Got a mouse in your purse? I don't do any of the things you mentioned. I do, however, find myself using phrases that have religious origins. I try not to, but they're so heavily ingrained in the language it takes such an amount of effort to re-train yourself that it's not really worth it except to be spiteful.

In Christianity, we are never separated from God. I think we use that expression much like taking God's name in vain.

I say oh my god all the bloody time! Its driving me insane!! Firstly because it makes no sense, as I do not have a god, and secondly it means nothing!!

That phrase is very disrespectful to the Lord as it uses his name in vain. I Hate that phrase.
