If evolution is true, and your thought process is a result of random electrical pulses in your brain, and your brain is a result of random chemicals being formed haphazardly, then how can you trust your own thoughts, reasoning and logic?

Ok, so now evolution is not a random process according to some of you. Which one is it...random or purpouseful? You guys argue out of both sides of your mouth. You don't even know your own theory.
Yoda, I guess the question is too complex for you to understand the significance behind it. Ad-hominem attacks are typical of someone who is losing the argument.
At least some of your counterparts tried to answer with intelligent theories. I respect their efforts.
You're just angry because you had no comeback for my answer to your question. And you probably didn't listen to any of those audio files. So, you are choosing to listen to only one side of the argument. Is that how we gain knowledge through science or is that how we willingly become brainwashed?

chabnormal,
You're talking about micro evolution or "variation in species". The problem with evolution is that you believe that process is sufficent evidence to support "macro evolution" or a species changing into another species. There is no observation of macro evolution. They observe micro evolution and imagine the macro happened. The Shephard/poodle is still a dog. They will never produce a fish or lizard or chicken.
I was in a debate with someone and they said that science manipulated alleles to produce a blue rose from rose alleles. That was supposed to convince me that somehow birds came from dinosaurs. Can you see the absurdity and giant leap of faith that takes to believe something like that?
And for those who say there's no contradiction between evolution and creation, they don't understand either.

innovator,
Micro evolution is indeed mentioned in the bible. God said that each creation will bring forth after its kind. He never said they would be exact carbon copies of the original. Dogs produce dogs and whales produce whales.
I have a link you might be interested in. If you click on the file that says "astounding evidence for a young earth", you might like it.
The others are extremely interesting as well. I love science. I find it fascinating and a great way to discover new things. Unfortunately, evolution is backed by much flawed logic and false assumptions. Evolution is not science by any stretch of the word.

Icarus,
Best answer by far from an evolutionist. My question is moreso geared towards philosophical issues or "grey areas" so to speak. But since I didn't specify, I have to give you a gold star.
Now, we are leaning towards the "if it feels good, then do it" mentality. Is it right or wrong? Do we carry out our desires or do we restrain them with strict morals? Should everyone have a their own personal moral system or is there a standard we should go by and make it civil law? Adultury used to be grounds for the death penalty. Now it isn't even grounds for divorce. Which idea is correct and how can we know if our brains are not created for a purpose?

Icarus (cont'd),
So, what you are saying is that it takes intelligent input to create something with a specific purpose in mind, seeking results from that creation.
If we are not created for a purpose, then why are our lives so purposeful? Why does our lives have so much meaning? Why are we producing results? If our lives are purely survival based, then what is the purpose of TV, music, luxury, sports, etc? We don't need that to survive so why would we desire those things?

We trust them on the basis that they get results. When NASA sends a spacecraft to Saturn, it's not pure luck that it arrives in the right place at the right time after travelling millions of miles through space, and sends back images of what we want to see - It's due to thought, reasoning, and logic. These are the things which tell us what is right and what is wrong, and we know they work because they get results.
What else do you think we *should* rely on? Maybe faith? We chuck some chemicals in a tank and light a fuse and just hope that somehow it gets to Saturn? No, clearly not. That wouldn't work.
The very nature of evolution is that what succeeds tends to get preserved, and similarly our trust in reason, logic and objective evidence is justified by the fact that these things succeed and get results, whereas nothing else does. That's why we rely on them.
On a more fundamental level we might wonder why the universe is as it is - Why it is so orderly, and comprehensible, and amenable to our rational investigation, rather than (say) capricious and inherently unpredictable... but the fact is that it *is* that way, and that's why reasoning and logic can be trusted.

Great question, but I fear your logic is flawed a bit. You acknowledge microevolution, which is not mentioned in ANY religions' texts, and in fact flies in the face of creationist believers' thinking that everything we see is what it always has been, just that it's only been here for 6,000 years or so. That is a "leap of faith" for you as well! To suggest that everything came into being 6,000 years ago from God is to deny that God left a lot of evidence to the contrary. We KNOW with certainty that the universe is billions of years old, and we have fossil evidence for transformational spieces. Your specific "added details" about denying the possibility that evolution and religion can coexist is again to deny that an all-powerful God would not create a self-correcting system to develop man the way He wanted anyway. Would you have denied Galileo's observations about the earth revolving around the sun, simply because the Bible didn't say it does? Have you never had a feeling, or a thought, or a "gut reaction" that turned out to be wrong? Does that mean God made a mistake when He made you?
Trusting my own logic is, to me, better than trusting in the hope that I'm interpreting the signals of an omnipotent Being correctly. I was born Catholic, became Protestant when I got married, and currently my family is Methodist, although I no longer participate. After much searching, I've decided that being agnostic is the best way for me to go. I hope you find what you're looking for too!

This is interesting:
"One in Four Biology teachers in Kansas profess the truth, that God created the universe and all that is in it. Kansas is not the only state with a large percentage of teachers who believe in creation. According to a survey by John Richard Schrock, a biology professor at Emporia State University in Kansas, five other states, including Texas and Ohio, found more than 30% of biology teachers are creationists. The creationist movement has come up with an alternative that would allow public school to teach both the theory of evolution and creation as theories. While the future of this issue is uncertain, it is clear that neither side is ready to give up, nor will the battle over origins be over soon."

You're a genius my Brother!
:)
LOL! I'd like to see the athiest get around this one!
"A humanist with a plan is like bees making honey, then having no use for it"
LOL at 'Yoda Green's personal attack. Evidently he doesn't know a thing about debate ettiquette. For a personal attack, without any supportive evidence, is the first sign of weakness and defeat.
You have them in a corner Brother...and they have no way out. That's when they always resort to personal attacks.
They evade the question and provide not a shred of evidence or any kind of a logical answer...because they have none.
All they can provide is supposition, heresay, conjecture and fantasy.
They are blinded by their pride and arrogance.
All we can do is pray for them.
They call THIS logic...
"Not one single thing about the brain is random or haphazard. Everything that makes up the brain has been fine tuned over millions of years of evolution, that's the whole point! If god created us then yes, it would have just all been slammed in there, but through evolution we've been given a brain of superior quality and craftsmanship. Our entire evolutionary history is wrote with distant cousins who's brains weren't formed properly and therefore they died off or evolved into something else, our brain is the epitome of evolution, it's the easiest form of proof for the theory."
"Fine tuned"? "Superior craftsmanship"? How blind can these people be? Does he not realize what he just said?
They actually back-up our statements without even realizing it.
It's so sad to see how blind these poor souls are.
Who fine tuned it? Who crafted it? The "god of evolution"? "Mother Nature"?
LOL! This is beyond pathetic. It's beyond sad.
They don't even realize that ROMANS chapter 1 speaks all about everything they say, think and stand for.
You poor, blind souls.

Wow, the inmates have taken the Asylum...forgive me if im wrong, but i believe Darwin never said thought processes were due to 'random electrical pulses'..any scientist can tell you that. Our brains evolved over time to allow us to outwit out animal rivals, allowing us to become top dog.
Thoughts, Reason and Logic are 3 entirely separate things. Firstly, Thought is not entirely understood by science, and science does not claim to fully understand exactly how it works. Reason is something every animal grasps in small doses, and is simply the process of 'thinking things through'..and Logic is the same as Reason, it just sounds different..
There you go. An Atheist explained it.
I have a Brain, i evolved one..if you want to think some God made your 2 parents inbreed to make you then you'd have to be a bloody inbred to believe it

If evolution is true - then these processes are not random.
If evolution is true, then the chemical composition of the brain gives the organism a survival or reproductive advantage. This advantage makes it more likely this trait being present will result in successfully breeding and survival of the offspring.
Therefore, it is not random. If it were random, then any brain chemical composition would have no advantage over any other composition.
If evolution is true, then these processes are not random, but have some sort of purposeful order.

Definately re-read Turner Television's and Thomas P's answers. They are right on the mark.
And by the way - Evolution IS proven to be real. It was a theory when is was originall put forward - as it should be. But has since been proven to be very, very, real.

I want to thank you though, as I'm going to submit this one to FSTDT.com. This should generate some chuckles and guffaws!
This one might even make the hall of fame! It's that stupid a question!
