MARINES!! Definitely more prestigious and more welcoming of the older-age group of people.

I was in the Marines during Desert Storm. I can tell you that it does change your life forever, but I would be objective about this choice at 28 years old. A four year contract would have you getting out of the Marines at 32. You will be around guys, most of which would seem immature (10 years younger). College, technical school, or something else maybe a better option for you. If you have the means, talk to a career counselor. They can use some testing methods to give you direction for your life. After going through college and obtaining a master's degree, I didnt get a graduate degree until I was 31 because i started college at 23. Think about life/time management. I wish you the best in your decision.

As a Marine, you're already too old for officers candidate school. You could join as an enlisted man, if you don't mind your peers calling you pappy!
Personally, I would consider the Navy before the army. It's a pretty good life, if you don't mind sea duty, and you could still be involved with the infantry if you opted to become a Navy corpsman. Then, you can ask for FMF duty (Fleet Marine Force).
I can't give you an opinion about the Army, it certainly has some advantages, however, as a combatant, I believe the Marine Corps better prepares it's grunts.

Well, if I were young again I'd go for the Navy just so I could be by the sea. The Air Force, however, is considered by military people to be the country club of all the services ($$$$)...they get and have the best of everything. Ask them, don't take my word for it. I do like the Army dress uniforms best (black and tan) but that is not a reasosn to join that service. The Marines...well they make really tough stuff of their troops and if that's what you wanna be go for it In any case, praise for you for even thinking about joining the services. Lots of people join at your age as well. Hope this helps you decide. Good luck.

I was in the Marines 35 Years ago and I know a lot has changed in that time. I do know that one thing will never change, Duty, Honor, Country. If you are in a firefight you damn sure want you foxhole buddy to be a Marine. Marines believe in teamwork and helping fellow Marines. Anyone can join the Army, The Few, The Proud, The Marines. Hands down, you want to be a Marine.

I joined the Army at twenty-eight for many of the same reasons you mentioned. I can't say how hard Boot Camp is although if the stories I hear from my Marine friends are to be believed (And I am a bit skeptical about some of them) it is substantially harder.
Personally if I had to sum up Army Basic Training it would be, "It's hard but not that hard". It is challanging especially if you are an older guy but nothing that can't be done.
Also I am not 100% sure but I believe to enlist in the Marines you have to be under the age of twenty-six.

I dont know about you all but I joined the military to get something out of it. Not just money for school, va benefits, etc. etc. I joined the U.S. Marines because I wanted to change my life. Personally I've seen army soldiers act like they are just civilians wearing military uniforms. If you want to go half way in your choice of joining the military by all means go army. If you really want to make a difference, join the Marines. Semper Fidelis. And one more thing... we will not call you "pappy"

I like the Marines better myself, I think the uniforms are sexier.. I know someone that is 33 in the corps, and he can outdo the young ones. It all depends on what shape you are in, and how hard you want to want to work to achieve your goals. If you can pass the test to get into the Marines, and you would rather go there, then go for it and stand proud for this country... If not, then be all you can be in the army... either way may you be safe and good bless you for wanting to join

I'm a US Army vet. Basic training is basic training no matter where. You have to be determined to make it through. A good deal of it is mental toughness. With either option you can have a very nice career - and you can learn a trade as well. I would suggest a visit to the recruiting center (see both Marine and Army guys) see who has the better option for you - and go.

If you are 28 and haven't figured out how dumb it would be to join any military controlled by the idiot currently sitting in The White House, go all the way and join the marines. At least your fellow soldiers will be as dumb as you are.
