I would say it measn that small problems like argueing or losing something like a ring, or having a headache is small, so you gotta make a big deal about it by crying or complaining. But larger sorrows like death in the family, sometimes those render you silent, you are numb and can't cry.

It means that the small sorrows in life, the small bad stuff that happens, can be easily complained about and explained with words. But there are some sorrows that are so deep, so profound and so personal that there are no words to express the truth about them. Even when we try to express the truth about these great sorrows, words fail us and betray us. Only some of the greatest poets can give voice to such sorrow, but even then there is always something missing. Great sorrows then become silence.

we all whine about traffic jams, paper cuts, small stuff like that, but if you've ever lost your home or a loved one, that tends to rattle the foundations of your life and it's not something that most people would tend to speak about very often.

it means that a small man will run his mouth, while it takes great courage and will to hold back and not talk to much.... the more quiet ones are usually smart people and don't need to run off at the mouth to prove who they are.
