There are alternatives to "running" and "being mean" to Jehovah's Witnesses. A householder might listen respectfully to their bible message, or a householder could simply say "I'm not interested" as he gently closes his door.
Note that neither of those alternatives involve either running or being mean.
It is interesting that so many anti-Witnesses cannot stop themselves from expressing bigotry and animosity toward this peaceful Christian religion. Interestingly, such "hatred" should be expected by true Christians in this time of the end, and it actually helps identify Jehovah's Witnesses as Christ's true disciples:
(John 15:19) If you were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because you are no part of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, on this account the world hates you.
(Luke 6:22) Happy are you whenever men hate you, and whenever they exclude you and reproach you and cast out your name as wicked for the sake of the Son of man.
(1 Peter 4:4) Because you do not continue running with them in this course to the same low sink of debauchery, they are puzzled and go on speaking abusively of you.
(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.
It seems signficant that the relatively small religion of Jehovah's Witnesses are the ones best known for their worldwide preaching work. Yet Jesus commanded that ALL who would call themselves "Christian" perform this public work:
(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And, look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.

Why would I be afraid of Jehovah's Witnessess if I am one? They won't shoot you, and they definately won't bite. All we do is knock on people's door to preach to people of all backgrounds about God's Kingdom that will also rule over all the earth and replace these present governments and will last forever (Daniel 2:44). It's the only hope of mankind and will bring lasting healing and benefits to mankind who choose to live in harmony with Bible principles (John 5:28,29; Rev 21:3-5; Ps 37:9-11,29). We're also fufilling Bible prophecy that Jesus told to his disciples at Matt 24:14: "And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come."
-Have a good day!

I enjoy talking to Jehovah Witnesses when they come to my house, but I used to pretend I wasn't home just like you do. The solution for me was to find out what J.W. believe that was not biblical so I could engage in conversation with them. They are well versed in certain parts of the Bible, but I have been able to stump them with a few questions. (led by the help of the Holy Spirit ofcourse.) What I feel is sad is that these people love God, they are zealous about what they believe in, and yet they are being deceived by Satan. Satan knows the Word of God and he will tweak the scripture a tint bit so that it sounds right but it is NOT the truth. If you aren't experienced enough in your faith to get into a debate with them, then DON'T. Just tell them the Gospel, that Jesus died for their sins. Tell them that they can be sure about their eternity by asking Jesus into their hearts, to be Lord over their life. Finally, tell them that they are saved by faith, not by works least anyman should boast. Don't say anything else. Don't engage in a debate. Tell them to have a great day and close your door.
I hope you try this once. You may be changing someone's eternity. Wouldn't that make it worth it? I'll be praying for you. Teri

I'm not afraid of them at all. Everyone that has come to my door as a missionary, and everyone I came to as a missionary (for a different religion) has always been very kind and respectful. We always just told each other something along the lines, thank you, but I'm a part of this religion, and wished each other luck - no big deal.

I;'m not afraid of them at all. They're just people. Misguided, but well-meaning. I take the opportunity to witness to them as often as possible.

JW's are doing what their religion wants them to do. However, running from them won't do any good. Tell them the truth. You don't agree with their beliefs and then share yours. I guarantee they will leave (and in a hurry). They aren't allowed to read anything that proves they are wrong.
They won't keep coming back...as long as you are up front about your beliefs.
Grace to you and God Bless!

I calmly point to my Virgin Mary in the window by the door and tell them to have a nice day. I don't beat them because they anoy me or do anything mean but I sometimes have evil fantasies. It is just I don't expose my beliefs to them and I don't want their beliefs anywhere near me.
