This is because the automated letter sorting machines only read english. And they don't always have someone on hand that reads spanish which will delay the mail.

You can send mail in spanish. Half the mail I get is in both spanish and english. I have sent and recieved letters in nothing but spanish. That question is most likely made up just trying to start trouble.

If you can't write in English Don't use the US mail service. They Promise Neither Rain, Sleet, Snow or Hail will Prevent the mail from getting there don't say CRAP about Spanish.

As a former postal employee, I can tell you that the envelope itself, must be addressed in English. The contents of the letter can be any language.

tell her to take it to a post office in Mexico.....bet they'll let her mail it there.....but she might not be able to get back, huh?
