your cat loves you. It is their way of telling you that they think of you as the mom or parent. When nursing kittens knead to help the milk drop. This action is associated with happiness and comfort. Some cats even suck or drool as an adult.

It has to do with when they were a kitten; kittens have to paw their mother's belly to get the milk to flow. Most cats will paw when they are very content and lovey. It's a sign of affection ;-)

My cat does the same thing so I asked the vet and she told me that was a pure sign of affection when they do that and purr. They are showing you they are happy and content. My cat will only do that with me and not my husband.

It's called milk treading. This is a trait carried over from kittenhood. They used this method to push the milk from their mama's belly. They do it when they are older when they see you settling down. They think of you like their mama. It's a good thing.

My understanding is they do this when they suckle to stimulate the flow of milk. When they crawl up on your lap and do this, it's because they are content and happy and flashing back to the cozy yumminess of mom's warm, milky lap.
It's awfully cute, isn't it?

It's a nursing behavior, left over from kittenhood. It's just a comfort thing.

It's called "making bread" and it what all cats do. They purr and it is comforting to them...kinda like someone who wants to get high.

my cats will do this too. one of them weighs 15 pounds and will crawl up in my lap and get himself comfy and gets after it. he purrs and purrs to the point sometimes that he drools on me but it hurts so bad sometimes. i love it when he does does it so i don't want to make him stop. your cats are telling you that they love you and they are content and happy to be around you. you make them feel safe. it's soooooo sweet when they do it

It is a holdover from their kitten days, when they would knead their mother while nursing. They do it when they are content or happy.
