News flash: People of the opposite sex are still of the same species. Just realise that he is as nervous and confused about the whole dating think as you are (and he is, no matter how cool he comes off).
Try "hey, you want to do something this weekend?"

Go up to him and See if he's doing anything on whatever day,let's say Friday and he says yes he's busy then ask him "What about Saturaday" He is most likely to say nope nothing planned and then you say "well you want to get a bite to eat or go get some coffee" And you can get it from there!!!

i don't know how old you are. but in general, ask him to hang out with you and your friends on a friday night...or just be bold and ask him for coffee.
