You do not need a passport to travel to Mexico until next year. The new law takes effect January 2008, so you have plenty of time. Go to your local post office and get an application and fill it out and send it in. Have fun.

It takes more than a couple of days to get a passport. A month at minimum. A U/S. Passport will let you into any country that allows U.S. citizens. You don't get a passport for each individual country you want to go too.
If you're looking to get a passport even though you won't get it in time, I suggest you go to your local post office and they can give you the paperwork and the instructions you need to get one.

FYI- You won't be getting a passport in a few days..... it takes weeks, sometimes months to get a passport..... I got one in february and I paid a lot extra to have it expedited and it still took 3+ weeks.
