I basically need a relaxed dog that doesn't get very big. Exercise is not a problem also able to handle itself when left alone. But I also need a dog that my girlfriend can get along with.

NOT a miniature pinscher. You should get a dog that doesn't have too much energy, like a basset hound.

Shih Tzu! I have a male shih tzu and I couldn't ask for a better dog. I've also had Shih Tzus in the past and they are great dogs. They are relaxed, sweet and just great dogs to cuddle with. My shih tzu now gets a 10 minute walk once a night, goes once every two months to go get a haircut and when I leave, he is just chillin on the couch. I suggest a shih tzu....I've had nothing but great relationships with all of mine. Good Luck!

Indiane has the right ones but you should take any dog for a walk acouple of times a week. You try staying in the house all the time.It's not pleasant

A golden retriever if you can make sure it gets one run a day and if you have small children then get a mini poodle cause a golden retriever will sort of bawl over little children.

The multipoo's are very quiet and good when left alone. They are small dogs and in my experience they are easy to house train.

Maltese Bichon..they've become the new favorite in our family. My parents and two siblings have them. Very easy to get along with, very loving.
