I have been working out regulary and have noticed some improvment but not much. I really want to know whether or not this kind of product is safe and if you have any knowledge of what brand works the best.

Protein shakes are completely safe in my opinion. I drink atleast two a day and notice significant improvements. I have been working out since I was 15 but started taking it more seriously about 4 years ago (I am 25). Taking someone's opinion off here isn't probably the best idea. Your best bet is to go to your local GNC and tell them what your goals are and they will be able to guide into which product is best suited for you. There are many different brands as well as type (whey, soy, whey + added ingredients, etc..). Hope this helps. Good Luck

Take it from someone who has tried almost all of them -- homemade protein shakes are better. All you need is a blender, some skim milk, some uncooked oats (steel-cut oats are best), some frozen fruit like strawberries or blackberries, and a good quality whey protein like Optimum Nutrition or Champion Nutrition. Don't bother with GNC -- their stuff is overpriced and not very high quality. If you want to do it scientifically, your pre-workout shakes (which should be small) need to have an even number of protein grams and carbohydrate grams. For post-workout (which should be a larger serving and consumed as soon as possible after a workout), you want twice as many grams of carbohydrates as the proteins. Give it a whirl. Good luck!

Protein is what your body needs energy to make so that it can function. Protein shakes work because they give your body the proteins that it needs without expending as much energy. That energy can be used to do other things now, like working out. Protein shakes are very safe. Other ingredients could be harmful though. Check the FDA website to find the facts on other things that may be included.
