My understanding is that there haven't been any more Jewish prophets since the Romans destroyed the (second) ancient temple at Jerusalem. Is this correct?

Why did God stop calling prophets from among the Jews?

Well, it wasn't my intention to start a Jewish-Muslim debate, but I have to say that Netchelandorious makes some very good points. Elijah's return was prophesied indeed, and it is interesting to note (although this is off the topic) that Mormons believe Elijah returned on April 3, 1836.

actually Prophecy stopped the generation after the destruction of the first temple.

the reason is that prophecy can only exist among the Jews when a majority of the population lives in Israel

at current rates it should take about 50 years for that to happen

I was watching this question for a couple of minutes, seeing what answers people would provide... I was hoping we wouldn't see a numbskull reply like the one above.

I'd like to take the time to tell him off properly, but as I'm a bit busy right now, I'd just like to tell him to stick it where the sun doesn't shine.

I don't believe that there have been any prophets since the destruction of the second temple. From what I know, we're waiting for Elijah to return.

But if you want to talk about people killing prophets, Muslims are always killing off Elijah, saying he is not to come. Their false prophet has sealed them, they are his, they cannot believe another prophet even if he comes in the power of Elijah. Because Muhammad has declared all who come after him are false.

Will Muslims try to kill Elijah when he comes?

lol, I hope the fundamentalist Rapturites aren't looking for the anti-christ too....

Anyway, prophets are rare, at least the mega-moses kind.
