No, it wasn't a sin, just their culture, like you said. You have to realize the difference between romantic love kiss, and brotherly in Christ kiss.

No, it was not a sin, it was a gesture of brotherly love. Keep in mind that other cultures have practices that we think are strange, or even disturbing (kissing as a greeting), but we also have unusual practices, to them anyway (getting the bill before the meal is over, for example).

Absolutely not a sin. Different cultures greet the Christian brethren in different ways. Do you remember the story of when Jesus and His apostles were gathered for one last earthly meal before His sacrifice? John laid on Jesus chest and enjoyed a closeness to Christ. Neither were homosexual. But what would you think if ya walked into a gathering of Christians, and the one doing most of the teaching had some man laying on his chest. Our response would probably be "WTF"? That was my res ponce when I first read this verse. But it just shows the different type of affection people show to those they care about.

You went to Paris to experience other cultures. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When in Paris do as the French do. Kissing, in itself, is not a sin.

They popped your personal space bubble and you should have told them you are uncomfortable with that. Respect needs to swing both ways. Just because it's cultural does not mean it can infringe on yours. You should have said something along the lines of, "Where I'm from kissing is reserved for close loved ones. Please don't."
