changing classes is never an easy thing to do in any sort of fighting, especialing going up a calss, but i'd still say Sugar robinson simply because of his legacy and good philly shell defense.

In the context of when Robinson wanted the fight to happen I'm assuming it would take place in 1959 or 1960. Therefore I take Patterson.

A dream fight has participants in their prime.
Robinson - W 173 (KO's 108) TF 200 - wins over Gavilan, Olson and LaMotta. Greatest of all time, period.

Patterson - W 55 (KO's) TF 64 - wins over Moore, Bonavena, Cooper and Chuvalo - KO'ed by Liston, Ali and Johansson. First man to recover Hwy wt title.
Unless Robinson could pull a Roy Jones, he would definitely lose this one.

I believe that Floyd would have been too strong for Robinson and knocked him out in 9 rounds.
