then why are there still apes and why haven't humans evolved into something else? Evolution is a THEORY.

Wow, with all the evolutionists attempting to explain to my brainless way of thinking, it is amazing how you all try to CLOSE OUT and FORBID attempts to mention Christ and God and Creation. wow, thankd for the enlightenment you all say I do not have. :)

thank you, Franco for the lesson, however, I could also use science and not Scripture to disprove evolution, true science has disproven Darwin, and even Darwin disproved Darwin, so are you better than he?

thank you adam for your assumptions of me since you know me so very well. You are obviously not reading your own answer cause it just makes no sense.Adaptation is one thing, but I know my great grandfather's ancestors did not hang from trees and creep out of a thick ooze in a cave. Try the real Truth and it will set you free. It takes more faith, wow I used the f word, to believe in your theory...than to believe a loving God made you on purpose.

AMEN!!!! I am so glad you asked this! I use that argument myself....why aren't apes still evolving? I have not gotten a straight answer yet. Praise God that we are created in His image! God bless you and your family!

Yes, evolution is a theory. But remember, "theory" in scientific terms means a heck of a lot more than in lay terms. In order for something to be scientifically considered a theory, it has to have mountains of evidence and have been reviewed and accepted by the vast majority of the scientific community. Many scientific laws considered simple by today's standards (gravity, for example) were once considered theories themselves. Don't knock it just becuase you don't understand it, sweetie pie.
By the way, humans are NOT evolved from apes. We share a common ancestors, yes, which is why we share over 99% of our DNA with chimps. Also, just because something evolved from something else doesn't mean the original form must become extinct. Otherwise, we would have no bacteria, no amoebas, that sort of thing. Please, before you try to argue, do your research.
Edit: Also, while I'm on the topic, you can't absolutely "prove" anything, and scientists follow an empirical method that allows them to DISPROVE hypothesis. In other words, of all the experiments and studies and comparisons done since the theory of evolution was introduced (ones properly conducted using the scientific method, anyway, not philisophical arguements) have not been able to disprove the theory. Consider the law of gravity. While it was just a hypothesis, and then a theory, numberless experiments and calculations were done, none of which could disprove it. After being tested so much, and having been accepted as "fact" (a dangerous word) by the vast majority, it was given the status of scientific law.

Common misconception. We didn't evolve *from* apes, they are our current relatives, that's why they're still here. The closest thing to apes that we evolved from were ancient ones perhaps. But not the apes today if that's what you're talking about. And, it takes millions of years for humans to evolve, no one now, or the next generation, or the next, or the next, or the next, would be able to witness it anyways, we'd be dead by then. And we are evolving. Oh so slowly. I mean, think about the time when some species started forming, they didn't think "Hey, we're evolving!", it's just natural.
And saying evolution is a "theory" gives it incredible basis. Do you have any idea how much work and research has to be done just for an idea to even be claimed and said as a "theory"? Theories are the most revered ideas, they're not just some random "hunch" that's thrown around. Saying evolution is "just a theory" or "is only a theory", with the "just" and "is only" is the biggest understatement one could ever make (that's what your tone was like "evolution is a THEORY"). Anyone with a certain degree and common knowledge of science would know that something with a "theory" is practically almost fact. But since there's nothing "fact" in science, as things are ever changing, theory is the next best thing.

If man was made from dirt, there would be no more dirt. You see the flaw in your attempt at thinking. Primate creatures that man and ape came from lived in many groups isolated from eachother. These different areas had different conditions, and enviornments. In some of the groups, the creatures had different mutations. Some of these mutations were favorable, and spread, some were not, and did not spread. That kept happening untill we got to the monkeys, humans, apes of today. Some of the groups lived in areas where mutations into apes were favorable, and some were not, so some groups turned to apes, and some to men. This takes millions of years, and we have not exactly been keeping records that long. We will evolve again over the next couple million years. We can trace this in fossils, dna, etc. We have seen evolution in bacteria, and birds. Mutations happen now. Look at the wolf family. The whole family has very hairy bodies. Freaks are mutated, and some mutations spread. With naatural selection mostly gone in humans due to medicines, etc we can expect a range of new features. Thank you for pointing out that evolution is a theory, and so is gravity, now go dispute that. Darwins book answers your question, so next time you want info on evolution read it if you can. I don't think you will even listen to anything I said, as this question was not to learn more, but to try and make a point. You asked this to try to convince yourself of your beliefs, and you will not listen to the truth of evolution. You can't understand it if you refuse to look at it.

Humans are apes. Human evolution postulates that apes have evolved into several species over time (some that survived an many that are now extinct). DNA evidence indicates that chimpanzees and human beings have evolved from a common ancestor. That common ancestor is no longer around. If you go further back, humans, chimps, and gorillas evolved from a different common ancestor. Further back, add in Orangutans. Keep going and you'll find a common ancestor for apes and lemurs. And evolution is still going on. The time frame for it is pretty long, though, and you're not likely to witness it happening in humans during your lifetime. However, if you take a look at flu viruses or staphylococcus bacteria, you'll see evidence of evolution....

Evolution is a theory, but also a fact. The fact that there are still apes is to be expected. What would humans have to evolve into for you to change your mind?
We have incomplete information, and we must do the best that we can with it. We can never be absolutely sure of something, but we are so sure about evolution, it is not worthwhile to consider alternatives unless new evidence pops up.
Check out the evidence we have already - talkorigins.org is an excellent source for the current status of the "debate"
As for evolution being both a theory and a fact, try the "Evolution is both a theory and a fact FAQ" at talkorigins.org

Humans haven't evolved into something else because the weak are protected in large part, so there is little chance for progression in that regard and we haven't been around hardly at all on a geologic timescale.
Hon - everyone knows it's a theory - that's common knowlege.
Sorry, all those fancy scientists with all their "book lernin" scares you, but you should know science and religion aren't mutually exclusive. If you were to learn more than your seemingly 8th grade education, you might realize that.
Sorry for the insulting remark, but hey, you do sound pretty ignorant. Read some more - it will help in your development.

For that matter, if all life evolved from Bacteria...why are there still bacteria around???
When something evolves it doesn;t happen overnight. It tkaes millions, even billions of years. Eventually apes probably will go extinct, just like humans probably will someday (human as we know them today).
You could also ask since CD players are invented, why do some people still have cassette tapes? or turntables?
Evolution is a theory, but its well grounded with lots of evidence.
Creationism has nothing more compelling than a few paragraphs iin the bible, which is full of metaphors anyway.

Ah, but the evolutionists say that apes and humans evolved from a "common ancestor."
And just let me say before I end that it is formally and properly entitled the "Theory of Evolution," not fact. One cannot scientifically prove evolution by showing it like students do for science fairs. It just can't be done! While I believe in microevolution, like the flu mutating to evade the vaccines and stuff, macroevolution can't be proven with a hypothesis, procedures, etc.

Please stop trying to find layman's faults in the theory of evolution, since you are not a biologist or obviously not even a scientist.
Science is not like religion where a wise man with a beard tells you something and you either believe it or not. Science is based on evidence and proof. It needs education. Far better people than you and me have tested the theory of evolution and proved it to the hilt.
What is wrong with theories? Every thing in science is based on some theory In 100 years science has given us every thing in life and is soon taking us to the stars. What has religion ever given us in 10 thousand years other than wars and suffering? Poor woman, get off your knees and let your spirit soar.

I think that scientists lately have the same dilemma (from what I've heard on TV and read in some magazines). When you think about it, there isn't much logic in it - birds evolved from pterodactyls. Today we have birds, and we don't have pterodactyls, because in time they had changed to birds. But, if we apply the same logic to apes and humans... IF humans evolved from apes, then how come that apes are still around (and pterodactyls aren't)? Different kind of evolution? I don't think so... Anybody read Zecharia Sitchin books? There you can find very interesting theory about of origin of the human species. Personally, I find it much more believable than the theory of apes being our ancestors.
