I don't have the original vcr remote and the channel 3 won't show up when changing the channels manually. We were watching a vcr movie, turned it off and then I couldn't get cable channels. My cable company said it was because the vcr wasn't set on channel 3.

The vcr doesn't have a 'menu' button & I don't have the remote. And since I can't get cable, I only have a blank screen on the TV so I couldn't use the menu anyway.

I'm confused about the need to get channel 3 and how that affects the entire cable spectrum of channels. Hook the cable into the input RF connector of the VCR, and hook another coax from the output RF connector of the VCR to the antenna input on the TV. When you watch a VCR tape put the TV on channel 3, put in a tape and watch it. When you want to watch cable TV, then turn the VCR off and select the channels on your TV. If you have a cable box then flip the switch on the cable box from channel 3 to 4 so you can record channels. There are the same type of switch on both the VCR and the cable box.

Try going to your menu option and reprogramming channels.
