Well, advice from psychology and medicine is not to start training until about age 2 -- although some children may be ready slightly earlier and will let you know with their behavior. There has been some research comparing parents who start at 18 months or earlier and parents who start at 2 years -- basically, the child learns at about the same time either way! So the idea is don't pressure them before they're physically ready, which is typically around age 2. It is often easier for little girls. The time it takes to be totally out of diapers can be 1 or 2 years after that (especially at night)

I am a teacher at a daycare in the two year room out of the 12 kids I have there is only one that is totally potty trained most of them are about 39 months before they are totally ready. Don't rush them, when they can take a nap and still be dry that is when you should really start trying.

It depends on the child and their readiness. My son is mostly potty trianed and he is 3 1/2. I've heard it happening as early as 18 months, but I think that is more of the parents being trained than the child. Check out some of the websites I listed below for more tips. Also, please remember, don't push too hard. If your child is showing most of the signs listed on the websites, then sometimes they do need a gentle nudge to get going, but if you push too hard, you could end up hurting more than helping. Your child will learn to use the potty eventually. Sometimes it just takes some time...and a lot of patience!

Generally it is anywhere from 2 to 3 1/2 years old.

Girls usually train younger than boys so they should be closer to the 2 year mark, boys closer to the 3 1/2 year. I've seen some take even longer than that but they are usually done by the time they go to kindergarten.

Good luck.

all of my kids started around two but were 4 when they when they were totally out of diapers through the night.

it took the boys a while to get the point

it took my daughter a while to want to.

some kids are just willful and some are so eager to please you! so don't sweat it.

if you are diligent it working with them and being very kind, then your child will be doing it when they are ready.

Some parents have successfully taught babies as young as six mos to use sign language to say when they have to go potty. Children should definitely be potty trained before they go to nursery school or kindergarten.

it all depends....girls tend to train faster than boys...my son was just over 3 and no matter how many stickers, incentives, etc i presented...he did it when he was good n' ready. going to preschool helped because he wanted to be like the other potty trained kids. alot of girls are2 and a half to 3 when they train.
