Soup is fine for lunch, just be careful because many are very high in sodium. Try Healthy Choice or Progresso soups, and again, check on the sodium. Or, you could always make a pot of your own, freeze it in individual containers and then take it to work/school. Also think about frozen meals to supplement the soup as that will get boring. Lean Cuisines by Stouffer are pretty decent and they have a large variety. If opting for salads, watch out for the sodium AND easy on the dressing.

Canned foods usually have a high sodium (salt) content.

Soups that are creamy like cream of chicken, mushroom, etc. are higher in fat/calories than soups that are clear.

There are probably better foods to help you lose weight, but I wouldn't think it's a bad thing to do a couple of times a week or so.

Soups are usually pretty low in calories, although most are very high in sodium. It's a pretty good option for lunch, though.

vegetable soup, chicken and rice soup, and chicken noodle soup are good if you're eating the right serving size--1/2 the can. i would recommend getting the 'chunky' kinds with the bigger noodles and the veggies in them, because they're more filling and ready-to-serve without adding water, so the portion size is easy to figure out. they're also the same amount of calories (around 100 calories per serving). crackers are questionable, but a few saltines can't kill you.

ask your mom or this you can do yourself::: MAKE your own soups. my mom makes soup with just chicken, celergy chunks, chopped tomatoes, and puts some powder you can get @ regular food stores: "Knorr" it's a brown jar with yellow and green on the front.
this way, you KNOW what's in your food.
STAY AWAY FROM CANNED foods, including the soups. they're not good for your general health and they have a lot of acids n' stuff to prevent it from spoiling when it's on the store shelves. GO WITH FRESH SOUPS. good luck.

Go for the natural heat and serve soups. Health Valley and Amy's come to mind. Eat it with whole grain crackers.

Go for the soups with no sodium. They do make them. Crackers are not good to add, they are full of bad carbs that will help you "gain weight". Low fat bread such as sara lee delightful with some fruit to go with soup. Good luck.

i think the sodium content is too high because it's packaged. but as long as this is not some form of crash-dieting, as long as this fills you up good, then i don't think it's that bad. just watch the salt intake. and double check the sodium for these soups.
