There are several reasons :
1. TV programmes are made to entertain.
It would be boring to the spectators if they showed Haiti to be normal.
2. Newspapers , rely on advertising to make a profit .
There are no international Hotel chains etc in Haiti, so they write what they like without fear of loosing that big advertising contract.
3.It's true that the Capital, and PetionVille have some beautiful houses , but lets not forget the About 80% of the population lives in abject poverty.
Roman Catholicism is the state religion, which the majority of the population professes. An estimated 20 percent of the population practices Protestantism. Protestant churches of numerical strength are Assemblées de Dieu, the Convention Baptiste d'Haïti, the Seventh-day Adventists, the Church of God (Cleveland), the Church of the Nazarene, the Église Episcopale d'Haïti and the Mission Evangelique Baptiste du Sud-Haïti.
What's the matter with Voodoo ? Nothing:
VODOU is a way of life. For those it touches, it is impossible to define. Many would simply state, "Vodou is a beautiful religion". But, while true it is far more than that. Vodou is religion, culture, heritage, and philosophy. It is also art, dance, language, medicine, music, justice, power, storytelling & ritual.
It's Hollywood who gave Vodou a bad name.
The main problem is that foreigners do not understand the religion.
Haiti is very special, but do not put our heads in the sand,
the country is on the edge of collapse, and lets not forget , if the last 12 months , there have been many kidnappings, so that means the rich minority have to hide behind the tall walls of their beautiful villas.
Haiti is a Paradox, as Herbert Gold wrote :
Haiti is the ,BEST NIGHTMARE ON EARTH

The media infuriates me as most of the time they do this ( and usually it is exaggerated) simply because it "sells news". Also, Voodoo is NOT the "evil" religion that the movies portray it to be. For the most part it is used for good as the Wicca religion does.
It seems that the media rarely reports anything good, which is sad as it seems that since the bad stuff "sells" what does that say about most of the people in this world.....that they thrive on the bad stuff??
