That doesn't answer it at all, I mean there are similarities between different religions in that they preach a peacefull life and a way of living life positively, yet few of there followers actually practice this? I have two very good answers (you know who you are)can anyone do better?

I don't understand where you get your information. I'm a Baptist and I do not hate people, nor have I ever killed, or even thought of killing another person. But as far as religions being the same, I don't see too many similarities these days....

That is the point many people try to make, but the simple truth is that religion gives people a group to associate with and feel special about - it makes them part of something they feel is better than others. A "cliche" if you will.

I don't understand the elitist mind set. If someone is truly compassionate they will wish the best for those they meet and not let their ego decide "I know you are going to hell if you don't follow my way". They will be intelligent enough to say "I am not god, and can only hope that you live a good life and let god decide without trying to push my belief's on you".

No matter WHAT the religion, it is the mindset that the members of a religion are somehow better than those who are not that is the problem. It causes resentment and hatred, both from and towards a religion and those who are not part of it.

It's ego. Plain and simple. "We are god's people" is the cry of all religiously intolerant people, when in a perfect world with religion they would say "we will live by example, not force of arms or social dominance. god is far bigger than what we can fit in our minds so we can only do our best".

Unfortunately, human ego never seems to be willing to do that.

All religions aren't the same all religions aren't taught the same thing. As a Christian I hear the word, and the word says be a doer of the word and not just a hearer only. So a person can hear what the pastor is preaching all day, but only when they apply the word do they reap the harvest that is promised from the word. In order for you to truly apply the word to your life you can't do it on your own. You have to ask Jesus to help you. "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Philipians 4:13. in order for Christ to help you and make you right with God you must "...Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost" (Acts 2:38).

The answer is basically twofold:
1) The religions that come after ones before it those religions because they believe they are going to hell (or just that they are wrong).
2) The religions that come before other ones those religions because they are a threat. Not necessarily the members of the religions, but the leaders and clergy do. Their power comes from being the head of their religion, so if a new religion comes to power, they are stripped of everything.

Because their pastors preach hate so that their followers keep giving them money, rather than converting to another faith and taking their money with them.

Case in point, look at millionaires like Pat Robertson, who live a life that is not so humble, and then preach a life of humbleness to his followers by asking them to give their money to him. Funny thing is that people fall for it.

Would not you hate false religions? We all have sinned and need a savior to save us. why are we so far from God? It's because Adam have sinned, our ancestors did too and we do too. We need a savior. someone who is full of life. just as Adam have sinned and brought sins and damnation to his generations, Christ can bring life to all those who believe in Him. God has predestined Him to die for us and to redeem us from our sins. He is the sustainer of the world. without him, we all would have been consumed by the wrath of God by now. Throughout all the old testament, God has been telling the people that the just shall live by faith. This faith is in Christ, the one who calls Himself the water fountain.

Because each thinks that their way is the only way. Until they can respect and appreciate each others beliefs and differences there is always going to be a problem. I don't realistically see it happening.
Didn't Queen Elizabeth I say "There is one Lord Jesus Christ and the rest is all trifles."? That one sentence basically says it all.
