I want to do light exercises with dumbells at my home. How much should they each weigh? I am 5'2" and weigh 136 lbs.

Star with low weight dumbells. Teo and a half or three pounds. But no more than five. Unless your job requires upper body strength. I presume you are not doing this for a body builder's physique. So stay with five pounds but repeat the repetitions over time. You will gain the strength but not bulk up.
Check the net (ggoogle, mamma, or dogpile), for sited that show and discuss various dumb bell exercises. I found far more information than I could ever totally use. (& many great exercises that I use every second day). I do it every second day in order tp allow my muscles to repair the micro tears that occur during exercise, and time to build up more muscle.
Good luck.
Dan.

It's dependent on how much you can lift and how much you muscles can handle. I would get the adjustable kind, where you can add or decrease weights as you please. You can get a 30-40 pound weight set at Target or a sports store. This way you can have weights as light as 5-lbs/each dumbell or as heavy as 20-lbs/each dumbell. And after that, you can start buying your own plates when you get stronger.

In the beginning, I would test out different weights to see how many pounds you can handle or what is good for you.

It would probably be best to get a set that has removable/stackable weights rather than the kind that you can't change the weight on. If you are serious about working out, you will get stronger and will want to upgrade the dumbells. Also, different types of exercises (tricep curl, etc) will warrant different weights. I'd recommend a set that went from 5-20 pounds each.

Start out with very light ones (like 2 1/2 pounds) and work your way as you feel ready.
