Boxers do look pretty sweaty before a match, but they are not as sweaty as they appear. They do warmups to relax the muscles and ensure that they are properly stretched out, which makes them loose. A loose, relaxed muscle is a quick muscle. Proper warm up and stretching also makes the muscle less likely to tear or strain under tension. i.e. less injuries. But, the main reason boxers look so sweaty is because they are thoroughly greased up before a bout.

It's very important to warm up before a fight so that your body is ready to go at optimal level. A fighter who does not warm up tends to be stiff and sluggish.

Maybe they're nervous. Or maybe it only looks like they're sweating because they grease 'em up real good.
