How bad was your damage?
I hit a deer with our 1990 Buick and it tore up the whole front end, fenders, broke the headlights, bashed in the grill and the radiator, and killed the deer. That was at 35 MPH !!!

Oh yea, I only had liability insurance, and the car was totaled so, insurance did not cover it.

I hit a deer driving my sister to college at Indiana University about 12 years ago. There were 2 deer crossing the highway. They looked so pretty prancing across the highway. The second one got nipped in the rear as I tried my best to save her life and the lives of the people in our car. The front hood was dented and the back hood needed a good scrubbing, if you get my drift. We ended up halfway in the ditch but the car was driveable and in decent shape. I didn't know I could still scream like a 4 year old girl! I became a vegetarian for about 18 months after that. I'd been considering it for a while, but that deer stared, sitting panting, looking right at ME and no one else waiting for the State Trooper to come and shoot her. It was heartrending! A trucker came across the road and comforted me (the deers had crossed his paths, too) saying over and over "Wasna thang you cudoo, wasna thang you cudoo!" I wanna kiss him to this day, because I was so sorry, but so thankful to be alive with no injuries except my heart in my throat. Good question. OH! This weekend my hubby and I were at the local mall (Busy area) and there was a deer who wondered out of the preserve area very confused. I hope that deer got home okay. I mean, it was only 20 feet ahead. The lights on cars must look like water reflecting light to them I think. It just stood, staring. So pretty.

I actually swerved to miss the deer and he ran into my front right fender. Tore it up, ripped of the outside mirror, dented the passenger doors, both front & back. It came up to $3000 in damage, but fortunately, I have comprehensive insurance and a $500 deductible.
Deer can really tear up a car. You'd be surprised how solid they are.

I had a 1992 Saturn SL1
it smashed in the hood and wrecked the windshield
I only had liability insuance, so I replaced the windshield out-of-pocket and bent back the hood with my hands
that was at 35mph
I never found the deer...it ran away too quickly

I hit a deer once and it made me run off the road. All 4 tires where gone, the windshield and side mirrors. The deer was fine.

I hit one with my 2000 Acura TL, and it only hit lightly with a very small dent in the hood. Another time, a deer hit my Pathfinder at about 50mph on the driver's side, it took off the drivers side mirror, put a few small dents in the door, and actually scratched the glass on the window with it's antlers!

I know someone who hit a deer with his plymouth. Totally twisted it out of shape and he needed to buy a new car. Unfortunately, he wasn't a hunter and let the town road crew carry away the poor animal.

Nope...but I know people who have and had similiar damage. Last was a Cadillac at 60 mph, and it was totaled too. Airbags deployed, but driver was ok. They make ultrasonic "deflectors" that you can put on the hood of your car that work very well. I recommend them to save you from that experience again. You should be able to get them at your local hunting supply store. Hope you are OK after your experience!
