My cousin was visiting us in southern Illinois, from California. A local cop gave him a ticket for having tinted windows. he said he was just visiting, and the cop told him, "I don't give a SHlT if you are just passing through; you have tinted windows and that's illegal here!"
And gave him a ticket, so he went back to California as soon as he got packed again.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse.
If the local ordinances say "no tinted windows," and you are driving a car with tinted windows, you are breaking the law. Pay up.

In CA, you cannot have anything more than a factory tint on the two front windows and windshield. I know there is a specific percentage in the vehicle code, but I cannot remember. The bottom line is that if you have an aftermarket tint, get rid of it. It is not legal in California.

I think you meant to say that he went back to Illinois as soon as he got packed again. That is a good thing. We have too many people here already. The more than leave, the better off the rest of us are :o)

He should have went to the court and explained the circumstances to the judge. Proving that he was not residing in the State and that he was leaving the judge *may* have reduced the fine.

If he chooses to ignore the ticket then there are two possibilities. Some states issue bench warrants for failure to appear which as long as he doesn't return to the state that issued the warrant he has no worries. Other states suspend your license which would carry over into California because all states now honor license suspensions from other states through the national driver register. The State of Illinois does both. This means he would lose his California drivers license until he had taken all required steps to reinstate his license in the State of Illinois. In the State California they will impound your car for a minimum of 30 days for driving on an suspended license.

The law is the law, if you don't like the law then don't live or visit the place with the laws you don't like. Yes, it is fair if the written law states tinted windows are not allowed. Child molestation isn't allowed in the US but it is in some countries (or the law doesn't state anything against it), so if a person from that country comes over here and does that you don't think they need to go to jail? Yes, it is fair. When in Rome do as the Romans do.

Yeah the cops in some places hate tinted windows because it makes it hard for them to pull people over for Driving While Black. It is possible that since his car was registered in a state where tints are legal he can beat the ticket in Illinois.

No its not fair. Law states that a vehicle may have the back glass and side glass (extend cab or four door car) tinted as dark as the owner pleases. However, driver and passenger front windows must be light enough for a police officer to see inside of the vehicle when he walks up to it.

regardless of what state the vehicle is registered in, there are guidelines for uva reflectance on window tint, and no vehicle can exceed that limit. Sounds to me like he has some pretty lenient officers in California or some that dont really care about enforcing that law.

No, it's not fair. You know what I think - I think the cop was just picking on your cousin because the cop saw his out of state plates. The way your cousin was talked to is definately not cool. I would suggest trying to fight the ticket, especially under the circumstances, but it would be difficult because the ticket was issued out of state. But, you know what, I'd fight it anyway!

haha first of all the cop would not have said that if it weren't provoked. and perhaps it may be a little glorified. if you are polite and nice to them they will usually be the same back. Say thank you, sir, and have some respect. Oh yea and Perry L, thats is rediculous, it is becuase they cant see if some *** hole is pulling a gun or something, race is not a factor, and some could say that you are racist for saying that

Your Cousin should fight it, I live in Florida and went to visit my family in Ohio and was pulled over and ticketed for not having a front license plate. In Florida they arent required so for those of you who say you need to obey the law you mean to tell me I need to purchase a license plate for the front of my car to use when I go to other states because that is there law? Tell your cousin to fight it.
