Its up in the duodenum (whatever that is) and is a stabbing continuing pain. Doctor took a blood test, and I'm waiting for the results. Pretty sure it's an ulcer as I had one 20 years ago :(

Prilosec is the best product over the counter to cut the production of stomach acid. you can take 1 or 2 capsules daily. It takes a couple of days to see results but it will work. In the short term use Sodium Bicarbonate mixed 2 tablespoons in 8 ounces of water and drink it. This will neutralize stomach acid on contact. Also make an appointment to see a doctor (to rule out something like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome).....you could need an antibiotic and you don't want the ulcer to perforate......then you could bleed to death internally before they can get you into surgery to fix it.
In MOST cases the antibiotics and Acid reducing medication will allow your ulcer to heal.....but you MUST see a doctor to be sure.
(A good friend of mine lost his father to a perforated ulcer, so please take this SERIOUSLY !!!)
Good Luck !!

I've been battling an ulcer for 44 years, now. Treatment has improved considerably.

First of all, let me say (and emphasize) this: DO NOT DRINK COFFEE!!!!!!!!! My Doc told me 40 years ago, "IT IS POISON".

That said, here's how treatments have changed. The first time my ulcer really flared up, I was on a strict diet. Scraped beef (you really do scrape the meat. It removes the soft meat from the coarse fiber.), cottage cheese, Melba toast, milk, etc. You eat very small meals every 2 hours. You will also go through gallons of antacid liquid. It kind of helped. After two months on this diet, the pain nearly went away.

When Tagamet came out, it was a huge help. I was on it for years with no pain. But you develop a resistance to it (which I did), and you have to move on to something else.

The last time my ulcer flared up, the Docs told me they now believe ulcers are caused by a germ. They did a test on me, and I had the bug. (The test will scare the HELL out of you. You have to sign a waiver releasing them from any blame if you die.) Anyhow, I was on antibiotics for 2 weeks, and it's gone. Absolutely no pain.

Go see a Doc. It will save you a lot of grief. And watch your diet. NO COFFEE (OK for decaf), no spicy foods (Italian, Mexican, etc), no fried foods, and so on.

You have not mentioned what ulcer. For an ulcer on the body surface you have to take Antibiotic. If the ulcer is peptic ulcer then you need to follow the following advice
1. Avoid oily, spicy and food.
2. Drink at least 12 glass of water daily.
3. Take acid neutralizing drugs(Antacid preparation)
4. Take the drug which con troll acid secretion(Ranitidine, Omiprazole, Esomiprazol any one twice daily for 6 weeks then once daily for 6 months)

Stomach ulcers are caused by a bacterium, Helicobacter pylori. A one week treatment with the antibiotic flagyl (a.k.a. metronidazole), plus peptobismol (bismouth subsalicylate, yes it works) and/ or azithromycin should clean it out in a week or two..

It's now realized that many ulcers are caused by bacteria, Helicobacter Pylori. Antibiotics are prescribed if you test positive for it.

Docs have Rx's. Ulcers are caused by viruses, so it's curable. Don't use the OTC stuff.
