If you thought you were confused before......here's another one to add to the list! Growing up, my Mother made a different version altogether of "pigs in a blanket"------This is what I was led to believe Pigs In a Blanket were. I call the hot dog ones; crescent dogs (SO DOES PILLSBURY) and the cabbage ones--stuffed cabbages.
PIGS IN A BLANKET:
1 pound pork sausage links
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
5 teaspoons white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
3 Tablespoons shortening, melted
Cook sausages in skillet over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain and set aside. Sift together the flour, baking powder, white sugar and salt, set aside. In a large mixing bowl, beat eggs until light and fluffy. Add milk and shortening; mix well. Gradually stir in dry ingredients until smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Arrange sausages on top of the batter. Bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes until batter is cooked through. Cut into pieces and serve hot with butter and syrup.

Hot dogs wrapped in a biscuit or a crescent roll. Never heard of the cabbage.

Everyone I asked agreed that pigs in a blanket are some kind of pork (hence the PIG part) wrapped in a roll or pancake, etc. Unless these other people are wrapping pork into the cabbage, I think they are a little confused as to what "pigs in a blanket" actually are, lol.

They're either hot dogs or sausages wrapped in a crescent roll. It really depends on the city you're from.

I always thought they were hot dogs in crescent rolls myself. I don't think they are cabbage baked into rolls. We are right, they are wrong.

The only pigs in blankets I have ever heard of are hot dogs in rolls. They must be from a different country. BTW Jolo, beef, rice and tomato sauce in cabbage is called a cabbage roll.

I'm Polish and Pigs in a Blanket are a staple. To me, they are hamburger meat or ground pork and rice wrapped up in cabbage with tomato sauce.
