Military police are normally identified by an armband with the letters MP on it. A beret is normally used to represent unit designation. The red beret signifies that the MP officer is a member of an airborne unit.

Not all military police wear red berets. A beret is worn to distinguish a unit or special unit with in a branch of service. A red beret is usual worn by an airborne unit of the Army. A Military Police officer in that unit would also wear a red beret. A Dark blue Beret is worn by Security Forces personnel in the Air Force. Military Police units in the Marines wear Camouflage covers. Some Navy Police units wear a type of Baseball cap or Marine type BDU caps when on duty and not in dress uniforms.

Well, Canadian MP wears red berets. The headdress policy for our MP branch has changed so often in the last little while that it's hard to keep up.
Anyhow, the red beret is a way to indentify them. Just like Navy and Armoured wear black, most of the Army wears green, the Air Force a blue beret, airborne in maroon and the Special Forces guys with the tan beret.

Not all do. The red beret is a sign that the person is assigned to an airborne unit. Most other soldiers in the Army wear black berets. If you see a MP from a non-airborne unit, he/she will wear a black beret. It just shows what kind of unit the person is from.
Special Forces wear green berets and Rangers wear tan but MP's are not normally assigned to these types of units.

well im not sure if the other branches do it but the Army MPs do not wear a red beret. A red beret in the Army symbolizes the unit being an airborne unit. Maybe that is what you saw, but regular MPs just wear a brassard on their arm that tells people they are an MP.

The Royal Military Police wear red berets.
To the best of my knowledge this practice is duplicated through the commonwealth.
I dont have a source but the Geneva convention requires MP's to be identifiable through an armband or something like that - so that civilians know they're not just being shoved around by troops or some such.

MP's dont wear red berets. MP's wear arm bands called brazards.
The only people in the army that wear the red beret are soldiers that are airborne qualified, so if the MP is airborne then he can wear the red beret

Berets are a part of certain military uniforms, such as those of the British Armed Forces and the United States Army. Berets are traditionally worn by those in armoured fighting vehicles.
