they make hair ball medication that you give them once a week. dont give your cat butter. eat a pallet of butter and see how well you feel =/.
and another thing, cats cant digest their own hair thats why they hack it back up, the medacine you can give them will help break down the hair so its passible through their system. giving them butter makes them have the shits and the hair goes through their system not broken down. im not sure if thats good to have hair stuck in your digestive track.

That is probably gonna make the cat sick. However at the pet store you can buy something called Laxastat or Petromalt (or get something similar). It's a brownish gel, that you feed to your cat (about a one inch ribbon of it, I think once a day, you'll have to check the package.) It is a laxative, lubricant & hairball remover. It helps the hairballs pass thru the kitty rather than come back up. It's not expensive either.

Change cat food to something that is made to help hairballs. Giving him butter will only led to a weight problem!

Drop a few olive oil on your cats food. This helps cats get rid of hairballs safely without harming their health.

cats should not have dairy, it's not good for them. There are special hairball pastes, usually fish flavored, most cats love them. I've also heard that squash baby food is good for preventing hairballs, but my cat wouldn't touch the stuff!

The problem is not whether or not it makes Kitty fat (all good cats are fat, anyway). The problem is that butter won't do the trick. What you want is Petromalt, which is available at any pet place. Cats like it, and it works!

Vaseline has always worked for me. I usually put a dab on the nose when they are coughing or daily as a preventative. It is calorie free and probably more effective than butter. A vet recommended it to me.

I've put a little Vaseline on his paws when he occasionally is trying to hack something up. I've also heard of cats eating butter but I've never given any to mine. Olive oil sounds like a good solution. I think occasionally using any one of those would be ok.

Try brushing him more often

No butter is not good for them. My vet said just give them a can of tuna packed in oil ever once in awhile.

No, just get them antihairball cat food and then you will be fine. But thats just a waste of butter. your cat will get diahreah or somthing if you give it too much. Thats gross.
