Because some folks don't like the Old Testament laws, and the edicts that it contains, I'll just stick to the New Testament.

"They exchanged God's truth for a lie and worshipped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason, God gave them over to degrading passions. Even their females exchanged their natural sexual function for one that is unnatural. In the same way, their males also abandoned the natural sexual function of females and burned with lust for one another. Males committed indecent acts with males, and received in themselves the appropriate penalty for their perversion. Furthermore, because they did not think it worthwhile to retain the full knowledge of God, God gave them over to degraded minds to perform acts that should not be done." (Romans 1:25-28)

"You know that wicked people will not inherit the kingdom of God, don't you? Stop deceiving yourselves! Sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals, thieves, greedy people, drunks, slanderers, and robbers will not inherit the kingdom of God." (I Corinthians 6:9-10)

There are numerous other examples, but one alone should be sufficient. When someone becomes a Christian, they are changed. Life-dominating sins become the exception in a person's life, not the norm. One who wishes to continue in any sin, regardless of what it is, should test themselves to see if they really are in the faith. "Keep examining yourselves to see whether you are continuing in the faith. Test yourselves! You know, do not you, that Jesus Christ lives in you? Could it be that you are failing the test?" (II Corinthians 13:5)

Hope that helps.

I answered a similar question recently; the answers I read were so mind numbingly stupid. And listen, I used to be a Christian. To me though, I always felt if being gay was such a friggin' horrendous sin ( and I do not feel it's a sin) then, it should have been in the 10 commandments if it was that gosh darned terrible, not in a couple vague passages that you could have skipped over if you didn't look hard enough. And no, Sodom & Gomorrah was not about homosexuality, contrary to popular belief. Besides times and circumstances have CHANGED since then.

I know...I know what people are going to say to that. Many Christians say that God does not change. Ok, then explain why it was ok for Adam & Eve's children to have sex with each other (brother and sister) in order to reproduce? I've been told by many Christians that god's laws changed since that time and that incest is no longer accepted but it was ok at that point. So, God DID change. Secondly... um, men had more than one wife back then... perfectly acceptable in God's eyes at the time. But now? "Not acceptable". See, God DID change!!!!

I could go on and on about other things in the bible that have changed, things that we couldn't do such as eating shellfish or having sex during your period or eating certain animals or cutting your hair wrong or wearing polyester....

Christians need to spend a considerable amount of time with a gay or lesbian person/couple and after that, they will begin to realize that it's NOT a choice.

P.S. If I said to you, "I tried to have sex with an (real) angel last Friday" would ANYONE believe me? Christians? My old catholic priest? Anyone. No. Come on.. the Sodom & Gomorrah story claims that gay men were asking angels for sex. Seriously, without laughing, can you believe that story? Besides, I thought angels were supposed to be sexless (gender neutral) so, homosexuality doesn't apply here anyway, even if someone tried a pickup line on an angel.

Pretty simple gays are damned according to the bible its not up for debate or opinion.. But I don't think it's a choice for the most part. I do think its a sexual perversion caused by a hormone in balance. We must not ever see homosexuality as the norm but more like an abnormal behavior. This does not mean lets stone homosexuals to death or even condemn them but it is obvious that homosexuality is UN natural. The body parts just don't work together. I think gay people can go to heaven along with kleptomaniacs and people with terex syndrome. Its a disorder not a way of life

Most prohibitions against homosexuality in the Bible have more to do with forbidding other religions (i.e. idolatry, according to Christians) more than actual sex.

Back then, homosexual activity was a big deal for temple prostitutes, and you can see why Jewish and Christian moralizers would have a problem with that. Hence, all that stuff Paul said.

Temple prostitution was around back in the Old Testament, too.

People who use the Bible as an excuse to hate gay people (and especially as an excuse to prevent gay people from marrying) simply don't like context too much. Marriage wasn't even about love back then; it was about buying a young girl so you could pass your soul onto your descendents.

The bible we read is a translation from its original language. Divining meaning from it based on an interpretation by someone hundreds of years ago, tainted by their culture can only lead to grave injustice.

I found a link somewhere where the person tried to divine the meaning from documentation closer to the source and trying to figure out what the person meant who wrote the letters (the only places referred to are letters from persons, no quotes from the old testament or Jesus), giving the alternate meaning for the words used too.

I don't see how gays break any of the ten commandments by just being gay, or become "bad" people by being so. Basing a judgment (who are we to do that in God's name anyway) on two bible quotes while not being able to obey the base laws ourselves (I can not imagine a human being who is not a sinner) sounds more contrary to the bibles message than loving a person for who they are, regardless of what they are.

Reviewing some of the answers:Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men

I see unnatural, lust and shameful. Again you are looking at interpreting what he may have meant. I don't see how these terms can be applied to any loving relationship.

The only way they can be found that way is by people giving in to wrath, pride and envy to make other people feel that way.

What appears one way to a person does not have to appear that way to another.

The Bible does not say anything directly about homosexuals. When the Bible condemns a group or people it is not because of their their sexual preference or what they were born into (diseases like leprosy), it's because of their selfishness, or inability to suppress their ways in which they will hurt others in things such as adultery (done by people of all sexual orientations), murder, thievery, and the like. The Bible makes life rather simple, follow 10 rules, don't stray from them or your faith, turn the other cheek, love all unconditionally, and always be willing to help those less fortunate than you. It doesn't mention or care about the color of your skins, the sexual orientation of your life, just that you put God first, and make you faith unshakable.

Remember what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah? That should clue you in as to God's feelings about homosexuality. But homosexual people can be redeemed by their obedience to God's salvation plan and living a sanctified life. The New Testament speaks in Romans Chapter 1:21-32 about the kinds of things that would happen to ALL sinners not just homosexuals if they don't see the error of their ways before it's too late.

The Bible is quite clear that God abhors homosexuality. He hates the sin, but lovers the sinner.
The Sodom and Gomorrah story tell us God smite all the males blind to awaken them to their sinfulness. They knew Lot had two male visitors and even Lot's future son-in-laws wanted to have sex with them. Even after being struck blind, they demanded the visitors be handed over to be raped. Lot had asked God to spare the city if there was one (1) Godly person. Alas there was not and Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed.
As to marriage of gays, a marriage is a commitment to God to make an attempt to follow His holy ways. If two people wish to marry with the intent of having a same sex relationship, then they are not the slightest bit concerned with following God's ways and are making a joke of their marriage and the institution of marriage.
In order to get death benefits and tax breaks gay lawyers have pushed for legalized same sex marriages. There is nothing about love, just money.
Britain allows same sex civil unions, with all the financial perks that a married couple have, but even that is unaccept to some vocal gays who wish to lower the meaning and commitments of marriage.
Jesus said "Love the sinner, not the sin." By legalizing same sex marriage, you are loving the sin not the sinner.
Oh and Jesus hung around with more than 13 other guys. The disciples were his closest companions. The others were followers and believers.
Maybe we should all remember Jesus' most used statement. "Your faith has saved/healed you. Now go and sin no more"
An added note: Christianity is not the only religion that does not accept homosexual behaviour as norm. It is one of the few religions that does not kill a person for professing to be gay.

i don't really believe in the bible. Well i believe it exists but not in what it says. But from what i have heard it really doesn't say anything specific about homosexuality. It talks more about the relations between a man and a woman. Therefore people who use the bible as a shield interpret that to mean that homosexuality is against what the bible says. But personally i'd bet money the bible doesn't say one word about homosexuality, just a bunch of words that anyone can manipulate to mean whatever they want.
