Yes it should, my father's funeral is on Saturday he would not have wanted us to be sad but he wanted us to remember him with joy and happiness. Therefore his funeral will be full of laughter at his escapades over the years. Yes there will be sadness but also joy.

A Christian funeral is supposed to be a celebration of the deceased's life and even more importantly, a celebration of the belief that dead is most certainly not the end.
Yes, there are usually tears at a funeral. But I think being able to laugh and remember why we liked/loved the deceased so much is the best tribute one can hope for.

A funeral is intended to give closure to a human life, both the joys and the sorrows of that particular persons' life. As you say the minister[also the rabbi, the priest] their purpose is also to recall that God intends that we all be re-united with Him. At leaving time, whether the service or life itself, we do need to recall the humor and wisdom the deceased shared with others and remember we do have a purpose here on earth. We will become eventually accountable to God for how we shared wisdom and humor with others.
Its good to read that your had a memorable expierence at a funeral.

I think it's wonderful. Funerals are a remembrance of the life of the deceased and there's nothing wrong about celebrating the happiness of the person's life. Of course, sometimes the circumstances of the person's death would dictate that laughter might take a back seat.

I think that funerals can really be a celebration of the person's life, even though it will always be mixed with grieving and it will be bittersweet. As long as you're not laughing for the wrong reasons, but laughing because you remembered something endearing or funny about the person. a friend of mine, her mother died young of lung cancer and requested that everyone wear pink to the funeral, because she wanted it to be a joyous occasion, a celebration of her life.

Yes, I agree I once was at a funeral and that was the most funniest funeral that I have ever been to in my life. But you are celebriting a home going for that person so It should be fun and represent that person as well.

Most definitely how I want my funeral to be. I know there is a time to mourn, but I want my funeral to be a celebration of the life that was. I want people to laugh!

Look at it this way: FUNeral. At my fathers, me, my brothers, and my mom could not stop laughing. No one knows what it was about but us. Man, that was a good time. Remembering someone does not need to be a sad occasion.

I think that's great. Twenty years ago a good friend of mine was murdered,on the way back from the second night of the wake a large group of us stopped by a diner for a bite. We told stories and we started really laughing hard.
Some one asked me how i could laugh at such a somber time . I told them that it wasthe least I could do .Laughter was the basis of our friendship.

I think that's awesome. Remembering someone should be a good experience, and I'm sure the person for whom the funeral was for was happy about that. =)
