Just tell the truth, and only give them as much detail as they ask for. You could also give the child a book; sometimes this is less embarassing. Search for "facts of life books" on Amazon or ask your local library. Or you can check out the site below as well.

Keep it simple but make it fun after all there is a lot to take in. WH Smiths have a great kids book that helps.

The first thing I remember was asking mommy why couse ther wore many thing i diden know...And mommy would alway smile and take me by the hand and saying some day you'll understand!! get a book about it from the health centre or library, i wasnt so lucky, my daughter was 6 and saw me give birth to her brother and it freaked her out, it wasnt intentional, i went into labour and he was born so fast that i didnt have time to get to the hospital
