it depends...on your budget, your fitness level. i recommend looking at some guidebooks just to get you thinking it the right direction, im currently living in europe and whilst im not backpacking "A Rough Guide Speical: First Time Europe" has become my bible, mainly because its informative but also interesting rather than those other preachy crappy ones.
