no, your hair will turn out orange. the chemicals in the store bought stuff arent strong enough to take black out of hair, it can only remove so much color, hence the orangish tint. if you go to a professional they will carry stronger chemicals to possibly give you the color you want.

You can try to highlight it but first..... Is your hair in good condition? Did you color it black? If you answered yes to both of those questions, I would say you can but it will not guarantee the results you may want. Hair has 11 different stages. You are probably a level 2 and most high lighting kits will only bring you up a maximum of 4-5 levels. You may also pull red. First consider your natural level. 3 is darker while 7 is lighter. the higher the level the lighter you go. Second determine what shade you would like to be. if you want to be blonde and your hair is not colored and in good condition you can lighten to the maximum time the manufacturers instruction say. However, if your hair is colored and in good condition your hair will lighten quicker than on virgin hair. If your hair is colored and in very brittle/dry condition it is not recommended until you get all the dead off by getting it trimmed off. Even stylists can't always get you to what you want. I've used Revlon highlighting for my highlights because the PROFESSIONAL BLEACH doesn't always work on my hair. So trust a PROFESSIONAL'S advice. Thank you. P.S. Try going to a Smartstyle who is owned by Regis and are located in most Super WalMart's for a reasonable price. Starting at $39.95 and up for cap and $49.95 for foil and includes a blowdry. Cond. is 3.00 and a trim is only 12.50.

If you want it to turn orange, sure go ahead! Lemons will either not work well on black hair or will turn it orange and unles syou know what you are doing, even highlighting kits will turn it an ugly looking color. You're better off getting a professional.
