What do modern day Jews do for forgiveness of sins since I'm assuming they no longer sacrifice animals. I'm really curious, so only serious answers from people who actually know!

Prayer has replaced the role of "karbonos", sacrifices. Some sacrifices were indeed offered when a person transgressed, but most were offered for other reasons.

We divide sin into two categories. (1)Between man and man, and (2) between man and G-d. The first category requires seeking forgiveness from the person sinned against. The second is done by performing "teshuvah", loosely translated as repentance. Teshuvah requires: 1. Regretting the performance of the transgression in one's heart 2. Committing to never performin g the transgression again. Some Jews fast on certain days of the week as a method of atonement as well, but it's only practiced by very holy people.

Yom Kippur has the purpose of atoning for sins between man and G-d. Fasting (25 hours, no food or drink), intense prayer, personal confession and remeberance of the dead all help to create a state of mind in which a Jew can honestly do teshuvah.

Regarding the fellow here who says Jew are lost, I remember the Christian bumper sticker popular in the1970's that said "I Found It". Soon after, Jewish bumper stickers came out that said "We Never Lost It". It's unfortunate that certain Christians feel this compulsion to convince the Jews that they have it all wrong. We pre-date the Christians by thousands of years, and, unlike the Christians, our religions has not been tainted by mistranslations of the original Hebrew source texts and inclusion of pagan rituals and customs. Trust me, we don't need Jesus, we are doing just fine, waiting for the true Messiah to come.

I believe that is why Jesus was sent down here to be crucified. It was so we would no longer have to make animal sacrifices for forgiveness. Jesus died and defeated death and sin so now we can get our salvation through the cross. I believe that the jews have to ask for forgiveness of their sins as the rest of us.
