Think back. Remember your school days. Remember what it was like when the class all had to recite something together, like maybe in a school play.
It might have been something exciting that inspired you, or it might have been as dull as dirt...but when you all had to say it together, it came out sounding really, really, really snore-making.
The wonder is how parents can sit and listen to their little ones do this in a group and then applaud applaud applaud, stand up and cheer, whistle, and get all misty eyed!!
Gee, I wonder if God is like those parents?
Thank you for giving your kids the freedom to learn about Christ. It is my prayer that, when they get a bit older, maybe, they will be able to return the favor.
Lots of love, and God bless you!

I am an atheist as well. What bothers me WAY more than Christians mumbling things they've memorized by rote is atheists who do the same.
I am so tired of people who just regurgitate the same arguments over and over without ever really understanding them. I find bigotry amongst atheists (e.g. LOLZ CRITANS ARE TEH DUMBZ!) to be far more irritating than bigotry amongst the religious. Maybe I just feel that way because society groups us together and I'd rather not be associated with such people.
Every time I read some lame "proof" that god doesn't exist I hope to myself that some evangelist does succeed in converting the author.
Anyway, to answer your question: there are people like those you've mentioned in all religious and non-religious communities. Sadly, it seems they usually make up the majority

just about every that speaks in a monotone voice speaks at the same speed were not everyone speaks at the same speed when they do it with conviction unless it's a simple repeated phrase (chant). so they do it so it has some order to it otherwise it would be just noise. Plus all churches are diferent even in the same faith try a new one.
My hats off to you for not forcing your beliefs on your children and letting them make there own decision and even going with them when they ask it shows alot of class and character on your part thats rare for any belief today.
How bout that you got a complement from a christian lol.

church is like that... it is made to enslave the mind of weak people...
My advice : don't send your kids there. If they start to believe in that kind of things after some time as I did (I converted from athest to agnostic in my early 20s), then they won't be brainwashed and would still be at peace with the world (that's the only thing church sells, after all... so if you can get it for yourself, don't go there)
or if you absolutely want to get them in a church, put them in the Church of the Great Bunny Rabbit. At least, they'll idolate something really lovable: a cute little rabbit, not that bloody man dying on a cross they show all the time(great idol from criminality, this one...), or that woman who seems always half asleep given how she holds her head (might prevent them from copying her while they're in class)

You must be speaking of Catholic Church. I'm a recovering Catholic. I do believe in God and Jesus, but I'm not too hot on the whole religion. Alot of people are "guilted" into going to church, make the donation, and avoid the fiery pits of hell.
My ex-husband is a freaking Catholic idiot that believes everything in the Bible word for word. Total hypocrite too. he has premarital sex, He's lied, cheated and stole. But a Bible thumper all the way. I can't explain it, there are so many of those idiots out there that just use the religion for their own convenience.

Exactly its a little world made for escapism i think, some where they can feel safe in a little cocoon away from lifes real adventure.
No wonder the bullies of Islam are trying to take over the world, when people realise that the third world countries are being over run with Islamic extremists to combat and take over the other religions that basically thrive in far wealthier regions the war against terror will be won.

I think you need to take your kids to a museum and show them how the world relay works. And it's probably because they are all brainwashed. How can you have conviction when the basis of your entire beliefs is a 2,000 year old story book? Answer you can't as you know you are wrong. Say no to jesus.

It sound like it is the church you attend. I think some people/churches get stuck in a routine and they don't think about what they are saying or doing - it has become habit instead of heartfelt. Good for you for going to church with your kids - that's great.

If you're an Atheist what type of church are you going to? I think it's time you consider a Chruch that is also known as the Uncommon Denomination. Check it out at WWW.UUA.ORG...I think you'll find a belief system that even embraces your Atheism. PEACE!

Try a different church? I know not all services are boring and monotone. And, just so you know, in a room full of atheists, Christians think they sound just as brainwashed and boring.
