In vino veritas.
What thoughts were in poor Mel's mind snuck out to play when he liberated them with alchohol.
Let's blame Mel.

I don't "blame" the alcohol, but given that he grew up with an anti-semitic father, it's not a surprise that those feelings would be there, hidden under the surface.
I also believe that children can overcome their parents if they try. When Mel is sober, he doesn't behave that way torwards Jews and I think it's because he consciously fights the hate that his father tried to instill into him.
Even if he does feel that way, it's his right. It might make him seem like a bigot but that's part of the beauty of living in this country. If he isn't harming anyone, then there's really nothing you or I can do except move on with our lives and let him live his.

i would think that the alcohol was just an excuse.
he wasn't in control, and he let slip how he really feels.
if he hadn't have been drinking, he'd still feel the same way, only he'd keep it to himself.

It shows how he really feels. The alcohol brought it out.
