We got engaged she broke it off and wants to give back the ring. I do not know if I should accept it and keep it in case I would ever need it again, sell it, or let her keep it, in which case she would sell it. It's a 9 stone diamond ring worth 1900$ canadian that I purchased. It is considered bad luck to give it to another? If I sell it to a pawn shop will I be passing on the bad luck to the buyer?

You can not give the same engagement right to two women. That is just tacky and very likely to make the new girl angry. Traditionally, since she ended the engagement she should give the ring back. You can sell it or have the stones set into something else.

The ring is a contract that she accepted marriage with you. If she broke it off she broke the contract and has to give the ring back.

Once it is back in your possession you can do whatever you want with it. Don't sell it at a pawn shop because you won't get what you paid for it. If you are going to sell it try ebay or see if a jeweler will buy it from you. Whatever you do don't let her keep it where she sells it and pockets the money.

Good luck.

Take it back. Legally she has to give it back because she accepted it with the intention of being your wife. Now that she has no intention of being your wife you should take it back and sell it, or better yet hold on to it and TRADE IT IN for another one when you meet someone else. Dont ever recycle the same ring with a different girl. Its like a car, its an investment you can trade in for something newer or better. What ever you do DONT take it and sell it at a Pawn Shop, you wont get anything for it.

Take it to a jewler and ask if they are interested in purchasing the ring. Pawn shops will not give you but MAYBE 10% of what it is worth. Always take it to a reputable jewelry store not a pawn shop.

Lots of answers...but the only one that matters is mine. Why? Because I said so. But in all seriousness, you should take the ring back. Selling it won't yield you what you paid for it unless you did a trade somehow - like your ring for another. You should also consider having the diamonds removed and made into something else - like a new ring with a different style...or a necklace pendant that you could save for a future gift. I definitely wouldn't save it with the intent of giving it to a future fiance - I'm sure she'd be pissed and hurt to know that you picked it out for a past love and not specifically for her. I think that's where the bad luck comes in!

I received an engagement ring and when we broke it off I wanted to return the ring. He refused to accept it. I still have the ring.

I would not give it to another woman, not because I think that it has 'bad luck'..... its a ring, a symbol, not a magical object
it would be hurtful to the next woman to get the ring that was purchased for your last love.
A lot of jewelry stores do allow you to upgrade though. If you take the ring back ask if they do upgrades. With your receipt, you will be able to trade the ring in for another. That way you haven't lost what you spent and you wont be giving someone your old girl friends ring.

I wouldn't want a ring my finance' had purchased for someone else...that's tacky...however I've no problem with a pawn shop ring that some stranger bought for some other stranger...

Accept the ring back and either sell or pawn it...you're getting back at least some of your investment, and someone else will be able to enjoy the ring...you can start fresh if you have need of a ring again in the future...

You won't get much for it at a pawn shop-If she wants to give it back well take it and put it away -buy another one for the next girl and maybe have the diamonds set in another ring!!! -necklace-or pin!!! Forget the bad luck -things like this happens every day-----Better Luck next time!!! You know it is so strange without LOVE diamonds are so worthless!!! Maybe wedding rings should be enough!!

i learned that a girl would not like it if you gave it to her and it was originally intended for someone else. So shop around for the highest buyer, don't just settle for a pawn shop. What kind of gaurantee do you have? some jewerlers will take back the ring and give you what you paid for it (or at least store credit). And its not bad luck to sell it back.

Sell it to a pawn shop. You're not passing on any bad, luck. Imagine the lucky person who finds that ring at a bargain price and how you will make their day. The next girl you get engaged to should not have your ex's ring, and your ex should'nt get to keep it because she broke off the engagement. Good luck fishing!!

I don't know what "bad luck" you are talking about, but if the engagement is off, forget her and sell it yourself. I do know that if I ever found out that you gave me a ring that you tried to give someone else who declined it, I would probably give it back to you too. You need to pick out a special ring for the special person. One ring doesn't fit all...the sentiment will still be attached to that ring you tried to give. A girl wants to know that she is special and that you had her and only her in mind when it was purchased.

She Is Not entitled to the ring so you should take it back simply because its valuable. It is yours to Sell, Throw in the Ocean whatever!... It probably would be tough to give to somebody else ...... see if the Jeweler you bought it from could work a trade?
I do Have One Friend that gave the same ring to 3 different Girls! lol and he has been happily married over 10 yrs now. after all its JUST a Ring Right?
