And for the 2 retards I am not mooching off the taxpayers< I live right now on money that I have saved in My 32 years of working, so when you get 32 years under your belt, then you have the right to say something, That is money that I paid into so by rights its my money, Until you can work the years that I have worked Keep your traps shut

I am sorry for your medical problems. I use to work for an attorney who handled SSI cases and they can take very long. Most people do get turned down the first time they apply and then they apply for a reconsideration. You say that your doctor sent a letter. Have you gone to the appointments yet that SSI has set up for you? If you mail them anything, make sure you send it by certified mail, return receipt requested. Keep copies of everything. It is much easier if a lawyer handles it for you. The SSI judge will determine what amount the lawyer will be paid and your award will get backdated if you win your case. Good Luck.

From what I hear, lots of people do. Get a lawyer.
Check around on the forums that discuss SSI or with related support groups. Google "[your ailment] support group [your state]" or "disability support groups [your state]"... you should find something with a little effort. Be sure to replace the bracketed [your ailment etc.] with your information...
When you find one, ask there for advice and referral to a good lawyer or aid program. Folks who have been through it in your area will have good advice for you.
Some of the legal representatives who specialize in this are real rip-offs... A friend got taken for 5 grand when the idiot she hired never even spoke at the hearing, knowing it was set for approval when he agreed to take the case! Very unethical in my opinion!

That's Social Security Admins. Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
There's two ways to go about it.
Do it yourself. OR
Hire an Attorney.
If you do it yourself it could take another two or three years and you still wouldn't get your complete SSI entitlement.
I suggest you hire an attorney, make sure he/she specializes in SSI claims. They'll usually only take your case if they're sure they can settle it. Oh yeah, and if you've been denied SSI but you've worked for several years that's your money, you paid in to SSI and you're entitled.
I just said that for the naysayers who might want to accuse you of being a deadbeat or something.
Good Luck.

I'm in the healthcare field, and thats just way too long. You should have an answer no longer then a year. Have you been following up with them? Does this come from a hospital stay or a nursing home stay. You should have been given a social worker thru them that canhelp. If not, harass your local politicians, etc. They do get involved, I have seen it. Good Luck

Be patient. My husband waited 7 years for his. We went through 3 denials and 2 court hearings before he was approved. They don't care and I really think they take a long time to weed out the people who aren't disabled. Good luck.

SSI is for a bunch of lazy bastards. Why don't you stop mouching off us tax payers and find a job. There are always jobs available even if you are "disabled". You seem to be able to read and write, in addition to using a computer, go find a job.

You can't sleep and your tummy aches so you can't work?
Grow up, be a man and get to work. YOU are what's wrong with this country.
I am scared now. I've worked for 30 years, my man, and I don't let aches and pains stop me.

yep, but look at it this way, when you do get approved, and get your first check, they have to pay you from the date you started your application.
so far i am at almost 50K in backpay from ssi.
