My mother married a man from Bangladesh (don't ask me I after 10 years still don't know why a hispanic woman would marry a man so different) and now since he received his citizenship less then a year ago filed for divorce and also wants 50% of the share of the house (which he didn't put any of the downpayment plus didn't go on the loan) plus all the credit card bills.

He can lose his citizenship and go to prison for what he's doing. I can't back up my facts but I've been told you have to stay married for at least three years for your citizenship to be valid. If immigration officials even think the marriage was fake they will deport him. Tell your mother to speak with an attorney soon. Or at least report her 'husband' to immigration.

Okay, I found a way to back up my information.
Public Law 99-639 (Act of 11/10/86), which was passed in order to deter immigration-related marriage fraud. Its major provision stipulates that aliens deriving their immigrant status based on a marriage of less than two years are conditional immigrants. To remove their conditional status the immigrants must apply at an Immigration and Naturalization Service office during the 90-day period before their second-year anniversary of receiving conditional status. If the aliens cannot show that the marriage through which the status was obtained was and is a valid one, their conditional immigrant status may be terminated and they may become deportable.

The answer is - get a damn good lawyer!! And go after the son of a b i t c h ... you may not be able to get him deported, but a good lawyer should be able to make sure he gets out of the marriage with less than the clothes on his back!! Good luck!!!!

If you can prove he married her for his papers there may be a chance,to have him deported however your mother may face some intensive questioning, and accusations of fraud. It will not be easy either way she goes.

It would be very hard to prove that he used her for this...it probably wouldnt even make it to court.
