The person handing it out always seems to be someone that is in imbalance with the world. I mean if you have to force your religion down on others atleast be a bit more creative than depressing everyone with your lame a s s pamflets. Why do you hand out pamflets to people anyway?

The people who need to try to convert you to their religion are generally very insecure about their faith. People who are genuinely secure about their spirituality have no need to seek out converts. These pamphlets are generally fear based- and use scare tactics to try coerce you into believing their lies- that's why they are so depressing- if you don't believe the way they believe, you're gonna roast in Hell for all eternity- not very cheerful sentiments! If you have any pet rats, let the rats use the pamphlets for their little rats nest- that's about their only practical usage...

You need to answer ur own question. I can't see why it would depress u. It doesnt physically or mentally affect people if someone hands out leaflets. u have the choice to accept or decline, end of. i would suggest looking deeper into why it depresses u.

some people feel they have a treasure that they want to share with others, but dont actually have the orative skills to describe what it is they have, some pamphlets r boring and same old same old, but some can surprise u like the one pasted below:

What if you find a watch in the sand?

Suppose you find a watch in the middle of a desert. What would you conclude? Would you think that someone dropped the watch? Or would you suppose that the watch came by itself?

Of course no sane person would say that the watch just happened to emerge from the sand. All the intricate working parts could not simply develop from the metals the lay buried in the earth. The watch must have a manufacturer.

If a watch tells accurate time we expect the manufacturer must be intelligent. Blind chance cannot produce a working watch.

But what else tells accurate time? Consider the sunrise and sunset. Their timings are so strictly regulated that scientists can publish in advance the sunrise and sunset times in your daily newspapers. But who regulates the timings of sunrise and sunset? If a watch can not work without an intelligent maker, how can the sun appear to rise and set with such clockwork regularity? Could this occur by itself?

Consider also that we benefit from the sun only because it remains at a safe distance from the earth, a distance that averages 93 million miles. If it got much closer the earth would burn up. And if it got too far away the earth would turn into an icy planet making human life here impossible. Who decided in advance that this was the right distance? Could it just happen by chance?

Without the sun plants would not grow. Then animals and humans would starve. Did the sun just decide to be there for us?

The rays of the sun would be dangerous for us had it not been for the protective ozone layer in our atmosphere. The atmosphere around earth keeps the harmful ultraviolet rays from reaching us. Who was it that placed this shield around us?

We need to experience sunrise. We need the sun's energy and it's light to see our way during the day. But we also need sunset. We need a break from the heat, we need the cook of night and we need the lights to out so we may sleep. Who regulated this process to provide what we need?

Moreover, if we had only the sun and the protection of the atmosphere we would want something more-beauty. Our clothes provide warmth and protection, yet we design them to also look beautiful. Knowing or need for beauty, the designer of sunrise and sunset also made the view of them to be simply breathtaking.

The creator who gave us light, energy, protection and beauty deserves our thanks. Yet some people insist that he does not exist. What would they think if they found a watch in the desert? An accurate, working watch? A beautifully designed watch? Would they not conclude that there does exist a watchmaker? An intelligent watchmaker? One who appreciates beauty? Such is God who made us. SubhanAllah!

Maybe you feel as i do! That politcis/religion are private and personal, wouldn't bame anyone for believing in one thing or another/not believing just as long as they respect and accept you for what you are, not try to preach their gospel or other.

Personally leaflets don't bother me too much because i say 'No thank you' Po;itely and walk away. What really gets me though!!! Is those using a mike and loudpseakers, preaching aloud in streets! They really annoy me because i view their loud preaching as an infringement to my liberty to walk happily and quietly in the street!

I am a believer, go to church once a week and try to do my bit but when it comes to handing out leaflets or preaching in teh streets, i don't believe in it! Was i meant to be a missionary of some sort then i would have become one! Beside ... There are better ways to attract people's attention than doing either! By helping others, doing some good where it's needed and credit people with enough intellligence to know themslves what they want to do, be it enter some religion or not!

Which person ever forced their religion down your throat? Someone offering you a pamphlet is far from forcing you to do anything. If you can't deal with someone coming up to you and making an offer to you, you sound like you are unsocial and insecure. All you have to do is say no, bid them a good day, and close the door. How hard is that? What is really troubling is trying to help people that don't realize they need help. Many alcoholics and drug addicts do the same thing.

I like to pass out atheist pamphlets in church parking lots on Sunday mornings. I also set up signs with strategicly chosen scriptures about the evil of Jehovah. I've been thinking about a door to door campaign lately to spread the good word that there is no God. I'm trying to figure out which I have more material for; a No God, or Evil God campaign...

Equally lame, but the looks on some peoples faces are priceless.

I think these people are trying to share with others what they have discovered in their lives. It's obviously something they feel strongly about, however, this more often than not comes across as they can be quite forceful with their opinions. If you do give them the time of day, you can have some very interesting coversations. But perhaps they need to admit defeat sooner than they do, because thats when people start to become irritated with them!

what depresses you about it in paticular

once there was a movie in the 60s about a church who desicded
to reach a community by renting a blimp and dumping tracts
all over people lawn... called The Gospel Blimp...
I hope their not landing in your roses and pool!!!
one guy went fishing and skipped church to go out with his friend
and in the end the fishing went farther than the tracts dumped in the swimming pool

on the other hand many tracts could be more substantial
maybe you need some better quality tracts to be handed to you
Jews for Jesus has some pretty fiesty ones
http://www.jewsforjesus.org

but my personal favorite is a well written one called
If you depressed, here have a tract!!!
Quest for Joy

You obviously have pre-conceived ideas, either from hearsay or peer pressure.

I suggest next time, that you take one and read it, for the contents might just have the potential to change your life.

Better a religious pamplet, thans drugs, which is often what is offered now, for a price.

I certainly would'nt think it something to get depressed over, just accept their leaflet, take it home, browse through it if it's worth looking at, then pop it into the recycle paper bin.
If you feel 'depressed' or sad at something so trivial as that you may need to go & see a doctor.

Christians can't be responsible for your depression... if you are depressed then get counseling or medication... stop trying to blame your problems on Christians who have done nothing wrong...

The only other option is that you are depressed because the Holy Spirit is working on changing your heart... learn to listed to him.
