OK I am in the process of a perm. restraining order and I am trying to serve the person the order is against, through law enforcement..The problem is that when he was notified of the Temp. restraining order he moved and quit his job and now I cant find any sheriff dept. willing to look for him, and i dont have access like police do. I know they can find him but why are they making this difficult.? Does anyone have any advice on how to get law enforcement to help more? Do I have to talk to the Sargeant?

Talk to Legal Aid in your community. Where a person has left no forwarding address, you can sometimes serve by "substitute service". This can include publishing in the local official newspaper. OR, they may give you other ideas. They deal with domestic issues all the time, and will probably help you with this information, even if you do not qualify for their services.

I would suspect it's difficult to enforce a restraining order on a person who has moved out of the area. They figure, he's gone so why bother? They don't stop to think that he could still harrass you and come around, even though he's essentially moved out of town. If I were you, I'd talk to an attorney. They have ways of cutting through the law enforcement red tape, and are experts in filing all sorts of documents including protection and restraining orders, in criminal and civil court matters.

Good Luck & remember that a restraining order is ONLY A PIECE OF PAPER! Keep another form of protection (a dog?) & never drop your guard-for your own safety

Do you know where he lives now? If you do, you may want to talk to the on-duty Supervisor. He may help you serve it or have some one serve it. Look in your local phone directory for you local police department.

if he did not leave a forwarding address then there is no way for anyone to find him until he is pulled over or is found for another reason.
