Sounds like one of those "I don't want you, but I don't want anyone else to have you either." He claims he doesn't want the relationship and breaks up with you, but then he gets nervous you might find someone else, so he keeps you hanging on in the hopes that maybe he'll come back. My best-friend is going through this right now with her ex-husband. He totally broke her heart a year ago after their baby was born. He said he wanted a divorce, and since she gave him one, he has called her nearly everyday ( Not to just check on the kids) tells her how good she looks...Bur shows no real signs of wanting to get back together. Just be careful! If he was too stupid to see what he had with you while you were together, find someone that will appreciate you and not put you through hell! You deserve better!

You know your man best. Some good guys break it off not to hurt the girl and to have time to think and reflect before committing further. Is he the type to walk away from an argument with you?
If you think this is the type of guy your man is then you should know that he wanted a break to get his priorities in order and he realises how important you are to him.
You have the choice to take him back or not but I suggest you don't hold grudges otherwise it will happen again. Good men don't want to fight with their women especially when there are strong feelings involved. If fighting was a common thing in your relationship.
Best thing to do is talk to him about it, communicate your thoughts and feelings, ask for his and ask why he had to break it off. Discuss it all clearly and thoroughly and ask about his future committment to you (that's if you want it- you don't want him to keep running off when thighs gets tough).
Be ready for a brutual honest answer. If he wants you again, the ball's in your court to decide what you truly want, if you don't feel it anymore then move on.

Hes either A: Horny
B realized the descision he made and wants you back
C if there were another girl on the table shes turned
him down.
Guys are not "friends with girls" this misconception needs to stop. Men have no intention to make friends with a girl he has no plans to become emotionally attached to. bet on one of the first 3 options

He is just trying to see if you have replaced him yet. Try not being available when he calls. He thinks he can keep you on the line while he sees how things work out with his new prospect. Maybe if you let him know you are not setting at home waiting for him to make up his mind then he will decide what he wants.

Easily no one like rejection! Girl he may have realized your the one or simply that he can't handle being alone! Whatever the reason though, make sure if you decide to be anything other than a friend to him you establish the law on your own terms!

Sounds like things did not work out as well with someone he thought he liked better than you. Tell him that he broke up with you so you would rather not have him call anymore.

I think Ne-Yo answered this best in his song 'Time'
'Noone knows what they have until they don't. And by then it doesn't matter anymore.'
Either give him one more chance, or move on. You don't want to be with someone so indecisive.
