I have an unfixed female that lives strictly indoors. She has been in constant heat for months on end. I have wanted to get her fixed, but I have read not to do that while they are in heat. Her heat won't stop! At any rate, she pulled out the fur around her nipples and plumped up and even took most of the fur off her lower tummy. I know she is not pregnant, but could it be a false pregnancy? Is that possible? Also, does anyone know anything about getting a cat fixed while they are in heat? This can't keep going on like this..she is yowling and howling and driving me up a wall..plus she tries to get the poor dog to mate her, and the dog looks molested.

yes, cats can have a false pregnancy, they will get fat, and even come into their milk. you need to talk to your vet abut getting her spayed, and tell them that she is in constant heat. They should be able to examine her and Tell when it is the right time to have her done. It does get annoying when one is in heat, they will drive you crazy... as for the dog, maybe you Can try some counseling with her to help her to know that it is not her fault and it will get better...lol poor dog.But You should talk to your vet...

I am sure that cats can have false pregnancies. We had a dog once who went through this- I don't know how common it is but from what I understand, fairly normal.
As far as getting a cat fixed when they are in heat. No one ver told me that you should not- we took our cat to the vet and had her fixed, the vet never said anything about waiting until she was done. Shortly after, she got really pudgy and she is very schitzophrenic- she is just weird. It could be that that is her personality anyway- we got two cats at the same time- sisters and got them fixed at the same time, only one was in heat- the other cat is normal, (well as normal as a cat gets, LOL)
After we got her fixed I was told that you should not get them fixed when they are in heat- no one ever said why but my husband and I highly suspect that our cats behavioral and weight problems have to do with getting her fixed while she was in heat.
It may seem like it will never stop but when they weather gets cooler she will calm down- I would wait until then- as hard as it may be, maybe keep her in a room byherself when she is flipping out.

That is crap. I work in a cat shelter in the spay/neuter clinic and we spay them in heat all the time. Some cats are in heat all the time and that is all you can do!!!!!!!
Call a vet and get an appointment now!!!!!!!!!

You should have gotten the cat spayed at 4-5 months and this would not be an issue.
They can have false pregnancies also. It is not common, but it can happen.
I hope she is not pregnant. You would be suprised at the number of pregnancies that I have seen where the owner says it never got out.

I have heard of cats and dogs having false pregnancies and even producing milk. usually this happens when they are in a mothering role with a younger animal. as far as getting her fixed while she is in heat, i believe it can be done but it cost more. call your vet for more info on that one.

Sheesh, get this cat to a veterinarian. She could have problems with her hormones or something other disorder which causes her to be in-heat too long.
