Try to convince her to wait...
Let her get it if you can't...
But have her watch this Saturday Night Live skit either way...

Well I wanted a tattoo when I was 16 and my parents wouldn't sign for it so I went to a friend (I know NOT the best idea or most sanitary) and got my tattoo done. I also did the same thing with my tongue being pierced. I was also a good student with a good job and had never been in trouble. My parents NEVER thought I would do anything like that. I think you might as well sign for it if you cannot talk her out of it. If not she made just go behind your back or she may wait until she is 18.

There is a reason they call it a tramp stamp... you need to explain to your daughter that this tattoo would give off this "trampy" image. Is this the image she wants people to percieve her as?? Maybe give her some other ideas of where a tattoo might look nice that could be covered more easily. Yes the lower back can be covered but with today's styles the lower waistline does not cover it. Also explain that this is a permanant decision. In a few years she is going to have to enter a more serious workplace where they frown upon tattoos that show. In my opinion I would make her wait til she is 18. They make this law so that people are mature enough to make the decision. Make her wait til she is.

What has become know as the "tramp stamp" is a tattoo on the lower back. That's all it is. It is not a special symbol or sign or whatever. It's a stupid label that really has no basis in fact. I would let her get it that way if you're paying for it you have a little control over what it is that she gets. Make sure she finds something that she can live with because they are painful and expensive to have removed. I would avoid anything "trendy" or fad-ish. Help her understand that it needs to be something she won't regret later in life. It should be something that really means something to her.

Do you know what a tramp stamp is? It's slang for a tattoo on the lower back. It's your call for now, but often people change their minds. You might tell her that it's okay when she's legal, but for now she should wait to see if it's really something she wants to stick with. 6 months of wait will sort out whether or not she wants to live with it the rest of her life.

yeah I do not know what you mean by a tramp stamp tattoo, but I love tattoos, I had to wait till after I was 18 though, but now I have 6, so you decide..maybe you should tell her that if you sign she can't get a tramp stamp cuz that sounds no good.

Sounds to me like she's a good daughter, so if you don't have a problem with it, go ahead and sign for her. Before you do, however, let her know that it's going to be VERY painful. I have a female friend (Marine, no less) who got one, and it hurt her so badly that she passed out on the table.
P.S.: For those who don't know, a "tramp stamp" is a tattoo on a woman's lower back. Don't know how it got the name -- the idea that women who have tattoos like that are "loose" or "easy" is completely unfounded.

Make her wait 6 months. Believe me, she may hate you now, but she'll appreciate it when she realizes it's not that great of a tattoo after all, if she didn't design it. I have a tattoo on my shoulder that I was allowed by my mother to get, and I wish she wouldn't have allowed me to get it because I absolutely detest it now. It'll cost roughly 1,000$ total to have removed, if I don't need extra treatments (thankfully it's mostly red and black), and it's not something I want showing when I get married!
My cheshire cat on the back of my neck, on the other hand, I drew myself and absolutely love. I waited 3 months and had a picture of it everywhere. In my bathroom, on the headboard of my bed, on the wall in my office, everywhere I could possible be during the day. I never got sick of looking at it and it's my favorite tattoo!
To "Linuxiac"
I'm sorry, but you are dead wrong. I work in a position of trust with a structural engineer. I'm privy to sensitive data day in and day out. My tattoo has never once affected my position within the company, if anything it's a display of creativity to my colleagues and other companies we work with directly. I've gotten more compliments on the tattoo within my field than I have ever received from outside sources.

I've had my so called "tramp stamp" for over 10 yrs (and do not regret it what so ever)...its a nice piece of work...having a tattoo doesn't make you a tramp, or a drug user or a biker babe...its artwork, if she's a good kid, let her get it, she's still going to be a good kid...it is in no way going to change her for the worse..

It's called a tramp stamp by dumb a@@ men! All it is is a tattoo on the small of your back. If she wants a tattoo, let her get it. Go with her to the tattoo parlor and check it out for yourself. If you don't LET her she may let someone on the street do it and you definitely don't want that!!!! Just be sure she realizes that she will have to live with it forever unless she wants to pay to have it removed or altered.

what ever you do don't flip out on her about it that reaction is what she is wanting from you just go along with the tattoo thing maybe suggest that she gets something else but calmly just explain that maybe she doesn't want the tramp stamp on her tell her to think about it a lot that will make boys and others think she is easy and being branded as a trap for the rest of your life might not be such a good idea just say you will sign for it but she should consider something else but tell her you will support what ever she want to do GOOD LUCK
