At some point in our lives we get "ideas" about love. Sometimes we don't even know them until they get pointed out to us. For instance, some women think that a man hitting them proves he loves them, it's not logical and if you asked them about they would deny it, but it's true. I hold the very unpopular belief that some women do ask to be hit BUT I point out that does NOT mean they deserve it, or that men should oblige. After all would you shoot some stranger just because they asked you to?
Incidentally, my brother almost married a woman who thought that way, and when he wouldn't resort to hitting her she started hitting him. Some people think drama=feelings=love.

Breakups suck, and being alone sucks, but if you are using the relationship to satisfy some emotional need that you have and you know the relationship is bad, then you need to address that emotional need that you have. To do that, you should be alone right now. You need to figure out what it is about being in a relationship that you want that you are willing to give up so much to get. Hopefully when you find out what that is, you can find another way (or multiple ways) to fill that need. For instance, if it is just that you don't like to be alone, then focus on friends, classes, events, trips etc. If it is a physical connection you want, you don't have to have her, find someone else, or casually date for a while. A bad example (but one that might help throw into perspective) is that sometimes women get an animal to fulfil the emotional connection that they feel they can't get in their relationships. I am not saying do this for that reason, but more just to show you that people try the concept of this practice often without knowing it. If you do it right, you will find constructive ways to help bolster who you are as a person, which will not just fill the void, but help make you more complete so that it is more about self fulfilment than feeding a need.

I think people stay in unhappy relationships for may different reasons. I think allot of the time it just becomes habit, you get used to it and therefore see no need to change you're routine. Also, it might be something to do with the fact that they think it may change or they can change the person their with so it's no longer an unhappy relationship.
For others maybe there's too much to sacrifice, maybe your married with kids, the house, the care, the dog, etc etc for most that would be allot to lose and a frightening prospect that open a whole new can of worms.
Furthermore, you have the people who are insecure and lack confidence. They might stay in these sorts of relationships because they think that's their worth, or they don't think anyone else could want them in that way (ludicrous as it is!)
But i guess there's a million reasons. I think maybe people stay in relationships with people they love, but not with people they are in love with, sometimes it's easy to get that mixed up.
The bottom line is your happiness and the happiness of the other person involved should be paramount

Just stupid I guess. I think a lot of them are afraid they can't get anyone else. Usually men make women feel like nobody else would have them, so they stay where they know they at least have someone. Sometimes it just takes them a while to wake up and see what's really going on.

There are sereral different factors to choose from.
For example, I am staying with *not the greatest guy* because I have cheap rent and he pays for all my food. It's a great deal until I go off to college. I am saving money, you see?

Because they are used to that person who makes them unhappy, because they are afraid to move on from a thing they know best and because they are afraid of what the person next to them will say when they will want to break up with them.

Lack of self confidence. Internal programming. Even todays 'modern' woman does it. It's a shame because there are woman that get treated like crap that don't deserve it.
