Okay...I work full time (and so does my husband) so my 9 month old cocker Spaniel has to stay home by himself all day long. He has a bladder problem so he can't hold his pee very well (unless he stays in a crate). I feel really guilty leaving him in the crate all day long (and at night when we sleep). We bought him one for an X-Large dog even though he's just medium sized, so he has food and water with him, and enough room for a toy or two. I still feel soooooooooooooooo guilty. Any ideas on how to make this better?

You could get someone to watch him when ya'll are away. As for the bladder problem I saw something at Petco that might work! It's like a doggie diaper. There's ones for puppies and ones for elderly dogs.

My husband and I had the same problem...we went to Petsmart and purchased some "puppy pads". My dog had already marked his spot in the house (his favorite place to pee when we were not home) we layed about three puppy pads down on that exact spot and now when we come home from work he has learned to pee right on the pads- they are great and do not leak. Once your dog gets used to this and you praise him(doggie treats) you can go back and really clean his old pee spot up with "urine gone". You can purchase it at Wallgreens , Boscov's or on line. its only $19.99 a bottle and its the best trust me we have tried everything to get rid of the pee smell urine-gone is the only thing that works it even takes cat urine smell away completly!! If you can't find it at those stores try As Seen On TV.com it even comes with a black light , which I refuse to use because if we can't smell the pee I really dont care what the black shows!! I also got rid of the crate because I felt guilty leaving him in there ,now he has the entire house to roam and pees at least twice a day on the pads when we are not home. Good Luck...let me know how it works. jlocke38@msn.com

You could try installing a doggy door that way both dogs could easily get into the back yard if fenced and do their buisness w/o your assistance and they could come back in to cool off. IF not that then buy puppy pee pads that are used in training so you cocker would knw where to pee instead of using your floor. Also leave some music on or your t.v. on animal planet that could help them not feel so alone and you not feel so guilty. (if you really feel that guilty then put him in a doggy day care)

Since he is still a puppy you can use training pads or newsspaper and spray the pads or paper with puppy trainer and he will go in the pads or paper. Do not spray puppy trainer on anything yoiu don't want him to pee on. Also puppy trainer can be used out doors, just spray the area where you want him to pee.
Take him out before you go to work, the first thing after you get home and right before bedtime. Reward him with a treat when you take him out, after he pees or poops. And reward him with a treat also if he goes on the paper and not on the floor or carpet and he will learn to either use the paper or go out to pee or poop
to get a treat and you will not have to keep him in the crate except to sleep at night.

keeping him in the crate will help him learn to control his bladder. It sounds like he can hold it with no problem but out of the crate he doesn't have the motivation to. Would you willingly pee in your bed? Thats how it was w/ my puppy (when she was a puppy...ahh memories) sounds like you've done what you could to make him comfortable though. If you have a tiled room you can try leaving him locked in there so if he does pee it wont stain the carpet.

Awww, the poor puppy.........Well you don't need to feel too guilty, because I have a book about dogs, and it says that it is ok too leave a dog/puppy for at least four hours by itself, then it starts to get very lonely. Mabye you need to start spending some more time with it before hand, and before you go to work. If he/she has serious bladder problems, then you need to go ask your vet for some help. Mabye you could ask your neighbors if they could come over and play with the puppy for a while. Hope I helped!

Some breeds are more prone to eye stain than others, it doesn't mean she has anything wrong with her so theres no need to rush her off to the vets just yet! My yorkie gets this and apart from looking horrible, if its allowed to build up and set solid it causes sores and smells ( mine hasn't that but i've seen it on others, thats why i'm on top of his eye problem every week ). To control my dogs wet eyes i clip the fur underneath his eyes every week with nail scissors then apply a thin coat of vaseline under his eyes and down the sides of his nose - this prevents the wetness from clogging his fur and prevents the build up of mess. There are powders you can buy from the pet shops that will dry the fur out but its messy and too long to carry out and as he's my pet and not a show dog i just clip the fur and smear the vaseline - a lot easier! If you're worried or if her eyes themselves look sore and red then take her to your vet, she may have a simple eye infection but as i've said, some breeds have runny eyes more than others. Good luck.

Kong toy with peanut butter inside. A pet sitter. A radio/ tv on. Come home at lunch and see him. See if you or your husband can bring him to work a couple times a week. From what I hear,a lot of companies allow this.

If you live in a house with a fenced in yard, get a doggy door. You can get one with a remote lock that only your dog can open. If you can't install a doggy door, try litter training your pup. Dogs can easily be trained to "go" in a certain spot. Get a litter box and some pine litter and train your dog to use it.

Awwww...I feel really bad for you...

I like the girl's answer about the puppy diapers. That sounds pretty neat to try.

Good luck, I wish you the best!
