Crumble!!! I am a crumble maniac - the bubbly hot fruit under the yummy crust - oh gawd! Then paired with vanilla custard - I'll die.
Pie is too neat and predictable. Crumble is wild and passionate!

I enjoy Apple Pie with a crumble topping because I like the sweet buttery and crunchy top.
I like to lightly precook the bottom crust (no top edge needed) with a little lemon zest then let it cool.
Add a little ginger along with the cinnamon and more lemon zest to the sliced apples and sugar.
Pour apple mixture to the cooked crust bake on cookie sheet. Add the cumble topping to the pie for the last 15 mins of baking and let cool.

Homemade Dutch apple pie, I love the buttery cinnamon crunch topping. My grandmother taught me how to make it.
The secret is not too much sugar and don't overcook the apples.. Use Granny Smith tart green apples only!

Apple pie, a lot less messy, and has more apples in it than the apple crumble does (imo). =) Plus, ice cream always sits on top better of an apple pie....yum!

Dutch Apple Pie...(It mixes the best of both pie and crumble!!!)
The secret is ALWAYS blind bake your crust FIRST!! ALWAYS!!!
Makes for a crispy, flaky crust.
Use a touch of salt in the Apples along with the sugar to bring out their flavor.
Always use a mix of Lard and butter in your crust mix...very cold!!! Never let the butter and/or lard get to room temp or it makes for a chewy and soggy crust...yuck!
