He has an exhaust leak and will need to get it repaired. Take it to a shop.
Whether it is an exhaust leak or the tube thing he is talking about you still have a problem. He is not really being resposible here(just my opinion) You and the kids are getting sick.
Can you take it to the shop?
Do you have other modes of transporation?

Your bf has an exhaust leak. This may lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. CO is orderless and colorless, the smell is the other byproducts of internal petroleum combustion but the CO is there. He needs to get it fixed. Demand that he does or you will not get in his truck anymore.

Okay...you are abusing you children by putting them in that situation. DON'T RIDE IN THAT TRUCK TILL HE FIXES IT!
DON'T put your children in that situation again.
If you are getting lightheaded from CO2 poisoning, you are more than half way to the hospital. It CAN cause brain damage!
It doesn't matter what part is missing, take it to a mechanic & get it fixed before he kills you & your kids! Just call any doctor, or the hospital & tell them what you have been feeling. They will tell you to come in NOW & bring the kids for testing! You can cause permanent damage to your children.
GET IT FIXED BEFORE RIDING IN IT AGAIN!

Leaking exhaust, broken seals, or possibly as he says a missing pollution control tubing/device.
In any case, have him fix it before you are overcome by the accumulated fumes.

might be that there is a crack in either the exhaust pipe or the manifolds. most likely would be near the manifolds since it's coming through your vents as well.
